Report: Resident Evil 7 to be Revealed at E3 2014

The article suggests that Resident Evil 7 will not be an exclusive title.

While Resident Evil 6 was met with lukewarm reactions from Sankei Shimbun [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/editorials/reviews/9950-Resident-Evil-6-Review], Resident Evil 7 is set to be revealed at this year's E3.

The article also specifies that the sales expectations for the game are to sell over 5.6 million copies like its predecessor. It specifically mentions a PS4 version, but that still can imply that the game will be coming out on multiple platforms, much like Resident Evil 6. It's normal for Japanese articles to mention only PlayStation versions of titles they report on, especially in mainstream media.

We've reached out to Capcom for official comment, and while it is still a rumor at this stage, you can probably rest assured that a new Resident Evil title will be released at some point in the near future.

Yeah, I know most people who come into this thread will be here to say something like 'WHY ARE YOU WASTING YOUR TIME ON THIS GARBAGE THAT NOBODY LIKES INSTEAD OF MAKING A NEW MEGAMAN GAME!' or something.

But I happen to like the Resident Evil games. All of them. Even the new ones. So I'm excited.

i think its very certain that a seventh part will come. obviously they will take their time now and hopefully deliver more horror then action and maybe even make final conclusions with all the main characters we know. even when i enjoyed part 6 actually and till now revelations is my favorite RE title.

who knows, maybe leon finally ends up with ada and we can play as clair again since she was only available in CV and RE2. and if its true that this should be the final part, this can be a good sign as well that they realize that they are running out of ideas.

I've enjoyed the turn towards co-op for the series, as along time fan, though six was still a bore. Hoping they do better next time.

"It's normal for Japanese articles to mention only PlayStation versions of titles they report on, especially in mainstream media."

Much like how it's normal for western media to only acknowledge Nintendo's existence when it's bad news or something to be construed as such.

I know this is jumping the gun. but I can already tell from the title card that this is going to suck. Probably something to do with "The war ends now." Since when did this whole shit needed to be a war?

Me too man, I loved the co-op aspect. It made the 5th and 6th games fun to blast trough with your friends. There aren't many good co-op games. Ofcourse I hoped there would have been more horror and stuff. But let's face it, since Resident Evil 2, this series has been more about action than about horror.

First game has been the only legimate horror game.

It amazes me how rare co-op games are, when it seems such an easy genre to succeed at. By that I mean: most of the fun comes from friends hanging out and playing with each other! Even rather tedious gameplay can be a lot of fun when you throw in co-op and a friend or two.

And for serious horror games I'm looking more to the indie scene these days. Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Outlast both do horror better than any AAA developer ever has. Problem is: there's not a HUGE market for genuine horror, it's a niche thing, and that's fine. But to justify big AAA budgets you gotta go for action to get the sales you need.

Works for me! Gimme the pseudo-horror co-op Resident Evils and the niche indie horror titles! And who knows, maybe the Evil Within will break the trend and close the gap.

That was exactly what I thought when reading it. Another pseudo-military shooter with characters who already know what's going on and aren't even shaken by it.

Man, I know Resi 4 gets a bad rep from fans of the old series, but that atmosphere! You can see Leon visibly shake slightly as he fights an enemy he knows nothing about. You can feel the uncertainty as he walks forward, not knowing where the next Ganado is. Now we have battle-hardened veterans and fast-paced wars breaking out. There's no tension anymore.

I hope its more horror based than a crappy shooter. I would prefer if they went back to being like the 1st/2nd game. A new character trapped in a zombie city.

Please, please, PLEASE let Capcom have learned from the last game.

Revelations, on the other hand, was brilliant, and easily the best Resident Evil game in nearly 10 years.

More slow-burn creepy areas while conserving ammo and health spray and less helicopter's crashing into buses QTEs please.

Wait... so by that logic that would mean they're continuing the story after the events of 6, even after they said they're rebooting it and going back to survival horror roots...

You know what, no. This is Capcom.
As much as I expect something like Revelations from them, we'll probably just be getting RE6+1 with their definition horror instead and again.

Off topic-ish: The Evil Within just got it's hype back indefinitely. Thank you based Mikami.

For what it's worth, I still massively enjoyed Revelations AND Resident Evil 5. Shit on it storywise and whatnot all you want but I still had a total fucking blast with it. Co-op, single player, I don't fucking care, I sunk at LEAST 50-60 hours into that fucking thing and do not regret a MINUTE of it.

...SUCH A SHAME then that RE6 ended up being what it was. Leon's storyline seemed cool, combat mechanics were INTERESTING but everything else just felt so lackluster and just... not interesting like RE4 or 5 or Revelations.

RE5 was an acceptable direction for the series to go in, but not the way it went with RE6. 5 refined the combat and 6 should have added back the complexity and difficulty present in RE4.

Just remember people, just because myself and others liked RE5 doesn't mean we were saying 'Go full blown action game', okay? We didn't want RE6 to be everything it was, we just wanted more RE 4 and 5 was pretty damn close so we expected the same from 6!

I'm in the small minority that liked RE6 (I know right? don't sue me) so I'm looking forward to see how they will end this.

That is of course if this will be their last game due to the title there.

Resident Evil: wiggle your sticks 2 will most assuredly be as well received as the previous iteration.
