I always thought Mr. Williams was someone who took his work quite seriously (at least according to anecdotal evidence from various people he worked with) and would generally refuse to do anything he deigned to be beneath him. Weird that he would accept a sequel to this - they must have won him over with something. Maybe it is not as much of a cheap cash-grab as it seems?
Or it could just be that Williams needs another pay check to last him for a little while and this is the only project that's been offered to him.

You'll find that many actors are willing to do things that are "beneath them" when their wallet is feeling a little light.

Considering he's got a fairly successful (and funny!) stand-up show, an ongoing TV sitcom and almost half a dozen other movie projects running, I'm not sure if he's really that broke.

I think everyone probably has at least one non scary movie that terrified them as a kid, and for me it was Mrs. Doubtfire.

And exactly what kind of story do they think they can really follow this up with? I'm skipping.

But why?
I mean... this was just a little flick... not great... not utterly bad... ultimately forgettable.
Is the situation really so dire that they need to use a one-movie franchise for a sequel? I guess this kind of stuff happens quite a lot, actually, but I just can't figure out the intention behind it, other than trying to make a buck off of some weak nostalgia some people might have.
Which, I guess, might be enough. But it's pretty damn cynical if that's all the "artistic vision" required to do something like that.

No.

Just no.

The original is good and for its time, but we do not need a stupid sequel when we know at the end of the first the story finished on a good ending. Why ruin it with another movie that would likely bomb?

Well that's stupid. I hope this, and Ghostbusters 3, don't happen. Not for my sake, I can just ignore it and the old movies are still good. I just don't want to see Robin Williams and Bill Murray embarrass themselves mining their youth for a paycheck.
I don't think you'll ever see Bill Murray do this (he once agreed to only do a movie if all his shooting locations were within an hour's drive of his house, he's not desperate for money) but Robin Williams.... well remember that Zelda commercial?

This is a bad idea, the original movie wasn't that great in hindsight. And "crossdressing humor" gets more outdated every day. But hey it's got that magical word "nostalgia" with it so they're bound to give it a try I guess. I'd be more interested in a Hook sequel though.

What? Seriously? We're not jumping at shadows like that Space Jam 2 thing a few months back? Are we actually trying to make something worse than son of Mask?

Considering the most common thing heard in a pitch meeting is: "it's like X but with Y" the direct rip-offs are at least refreshingly honest.

On a related and predictable note:

There are many, many reasons I don't want to be in Mrs. Doubtfire 2. But they haven't even asked me (yet), so no need to worry.

She also said that on her Facebook as well. I don't know if people are hounding her to reprise her role on Twitter, but her Facebook is getting slammed with people begging, if not, demanding she be in it. She has stated over and over again that she is done with acting and is focusing on her writing.

Now I know what's been missing from my life. It was this pen, it was over there where I couldn't see it. What are you guy's talking about? What? No. Why would anyone want that?
