I think people who announce that they've reported are insecure and immature, so desperate for some kind of validation that not only do they appeal to a higher power that justice be served, but that everyone else be aware of their righteousness and support them in it.

It's particularly loathesome when the person doing the reporting was in a debate that became heated, and their reason for reporting was not so much an outcry against someone being inflammatory or breaking the rules, but because they personally were offended or (more likely) losing.

"Ha, I'm letting you know that I feel I cannot walk away from this conversation satisfied until you get in trouble or mad. I have since alerted the moderators to comb through your post to look for something that could be considered offensive in the hopes that you will get in trouble making me look awesome and the winner. I need to tell you this so that it will feel sweeter if and when you get in trouble for those hurtful words you used to describe my mother. Ha."

"Reported" is much more concise.

By all means report someone if they're breaking the rules but there is no need to jump on a high horse about it. A lot of us have been moderated so its only fair that people who make similar offenses should be punished the same way. I report and move on.
