Alright, Escapists, once again I return to your ingenious hive-mind for gaming related help. You see, I have fallen through a small logic problem which has effectively sterlized my ability to purchase Microsoft points, and, by that extent, my ability to purchase DLC of any kind, which has left me unable to fulfill my desired purchases of all Skyrim, ME3, and Arkham City DLC, as well as XBLA games such as Journey, Limbo and Bastion, all of which I want to play.

So, if any Escapists would be inclined to lend some advice in the spirit of the holidays, it would be very appreciated :).

Alright, the problem:

As you know, an Xbox LIVE profile must be connected to an Email address. Now, when I first set up my XBL profile a few months back, I used my Comcast Email address that I was using at the time. But THEN my family went ahead and dropped Comcast as our Internet provider. This means that, after a short time, the Email address became defunct. Now, for whatever reason, my XBL profile was largely unaffected by this, besides the fact that I can now no longer purchase MS points. Now, you would think that this wouldn't be an issue, because I can just go into my Xbox and switch my LIVE profile over to a new address, right? Here's the problem, though:

You're gonna freaking love this:

In order to switch one's Xbox LIVE profile over a new Email address, one must enter the password for the address it's already connected to. In my case, a DEFUNCT one that no longer accepts it's own password. Ouch.

So, I'm trapped in a perfect little logical paradox. I tried calling Microsoft, and they were their own typical form of unhelpful. So, a few months later, as a last resort, I decided to come to you guys for help. The sheer amount of DLC and XLBA that everyone but me seems to be enjoying has pushed me to desperation. Any ideas?

That shouldn't affect your ability to use Microsoft points.

Pick up some prepaid cards at your local retailer and use those.

Yeah use prepaid cards bought in a game shop for now. And maybe once your subscription is about to run out cancel it. Then re-subscribe - basically start again with the whole online thing :p

I use prepaid too and i'm glad MS aren't scrapping them as I'd rather not tie a CC or Paypal account to my XBL account.

I buy 2100 MSP for £17-£18 buy the game I want and save the rest for when MS put a game on sale that's interests me, which doesn't happen all that often anymore.
