To get these studies, don't they have to allow kids to view violent media, media that isn't supposed to be seen by kids?
+1

We should call the police on them for infinite lulz.
Now, now, hang on. There's enough violent media out there without being 18+. Street Fighter X Tekken came out recently for instance and that's 12+. I'd call that pretty violent, wouldn't you? I guess it depends on what you call kids, but in my eyes a 12 year old is still a child.

As a psychology student
I just think that people don't see psychology as a real science, and the world is filled with psychologists and psychology students. It's hard to take you people seriously, it's like chiropractors vs real doctors.
That's not really fair. Chiropractors are moneymakers, they tend to run a business. But psychologists are just researches. And much of the methodology psychiatrists use to diagnose mentally ill people come from psychologists.

It usually is for most gamers. Or did you think your average gamer was a member of a criminal syndicate or mercenary fighting in the jungles of Africa?

Fine, Lord Buzz Killington.

Am I supposed to have a say on that matter? It's unfair, but the world is unfair. From what I have noticed a lot of people don't like psychologists for the same reason chiropractors are hated.

Find me a TV series that doesn't portrait a psychologist as a smart-ass rambling about Freudian bull and trying to keep the patient talking to charge him/her extra. The media portraits them as money makers.

if they can't tell the difference be tween reality and fiction, that's there problem, but the world isn't 'friendly', there's been several murders where i live in the last few weeks alone, not to mention the job market being shit, still -.- [sub]'it's getting better' my ass[/sub]

maybe he should get out of his lab a have a look around, the world may not be as bad as some people (and it's not just gamers) say, but its hardly a 'friendly' place

as for your snarky dig, crime lords and mercenary's are SO last year, or was it the year before that >.> can't tell, the AAA market all looks the same to me anymore

I almost always stop listening and go into the "Fuck you, your doing it wrong!" mode when I read/hear the "bla, bla, desensitized up to 15min after, bla bla" tests (Yes, I do continue to read/listen after that, so no "you aren't paying attention" comment please).

If I scare you and your pulse is high for up to 5 minutes afterwards, that don't mean that you will suffer a permanent, elevated pulse if I scare you multiple times.
If you think so, please start suing the scary movie business now.

It's an exaggeration, but the point remain the same. A biological response to outside stimuli doesn't result in a f*n "Permanency"-spell so that the subject will continue to experience it without stimuli.

When you watch a fight, a P.O.V shot from the edge of a high cliff, physical pain or other sights that you would react with aggression or panic (fight or flight), your brain is wired to react to it. But you don't actually F*N run from the theater or punch your TV! It's because a healthy brain will dull down the instinct because it realizes that this isn't real.
So you might have an reaction, but it doesn't mean anything more than that your brain and nerves are working.

While you debate this, your army knows and exploits this fact, increasingly recruiting ex gamers to operate the UAV's and serve as a waste material at the front lines.
Of course -- this is Generation Kill after all.

A study like this, even one which seeks to legitimately explore the effects of violent media (not just gaming) is always guaranteed to be accused of pandering to anti-gamer sentiments; this is normally followed by a flood of anecdotal evidence to reinforce the aforementioned, knee-jerk reaction.

I'll take actual research over that BS.

I can't help but think of that Critical Miss comic everytime this stuff comes up.

"We've seen a correlation between aggression and video games."
"Bullshit!"
"We've seen that video games improve your hand-eye coordination and make you physically attractive."
"Science!"

Media (like any other factor) has an impact, and not just on children. I'd worry more about the greater impact of media on social attitudes towards violence and militarism.
