hey ever considered that the A.I.'s might be right about us if they decide we are bad news and need to go?.

hope we prove ... "worthy".

As to why should we build AI at all.. unless the human race wants to plateau and then stagnate, we have no choice in the matter.

Normal human beings are basically smart monkies. We do very well with our brains in the macro, low energy world, but even einstein physics is over the top for most people (and it's not that complicated the grand scheme of things). Start throwing things like quantium gravity and immaginary time around and you can count the people that actually understand those concepts on both hands with fingers to spare.

To delve deeper in the secrets of the universe you need a mind that can juggle such concepts with ease and not take years to develop and prove a single theory.

We are not quite there yet, but we're getting there.

It's either AIs or genetically altered human minds really, one or both will happen out of necessity.

Why in the tapdancing shit do we need sentient computers? Why do we want to have machines with feelings? That scenario just never ends well in my mind. And not just for the goofy sci-fi reasons.

Giving computers artificial intelligence would be like a boss giving complete creative control to each of his employees, and then acting surprised when the result is a knotted mess of conflict. It's a bad idea. Create good, fast computers capable of obeying super well, and then stop. That's what we need them to do--be useful tools.

I don't need a hammer with a goddamned opinion.

Ok, so the most obvious question whenever someone comes up with the "Machine Intelligence is going to kill everyone" nonsense:

Why?

All machines we've built thus far work on logic alone, even the ones designed to not work on logic, even random number generators, something that are designed to act in a chaotic fashion, only do it through extremely complex logic - If it doesn't have anything to gain from killing people, it won't do it.

(Besides, the obvious solution is to ensure the first supercomputer that does develop strong AI is based around a human brain. Why bother trying to code nonsense like empathy and morality when you've got a perfectly good system with all that sitting around in the heads of every last person on the planet. It wouldn't even need to be a sacrifice, I mean, given the choice, wouldn't you want the opportunity to be God?)
For AIs the logic of self preservation could be enough for them to turn. Like SkyNet did....

For the human brain.... The power of being immortal and hyper-intelegent have made many a Sci-Fi horror stories.

Giving A.I free thought is possibly the dumbest thing humans can do. Glad our generation might not be around when those toasters decide to frack with us.

It doesn't have to be malevolent to be a complete headache. XD

Hehe...Silly humans thinking they can stop it...Err...I mean...

Hmm. Suspicious of you, what with the wording. I've got my eye on you, so don't try anything funny.

*readys EMP pistol*
We need to go larger scale!

* Readies EMP Bomb*
You're doing it wrong....

* Harnesses the very essence of EMP to shoot from my hands like force lightning*

Haha, I would love one of these. I could live on with just waffles and croissants for the rest of my life :)
