Resident evil 5, the most talked about and controversial, and even loved games out at the moment, is just an exact replica of resident evil 4 with a partner about 100x more useful, dont get me wrong, i dont mind a game that plays on simlar storylines, otherwise i would hate the original resident evils, but something about this game bugged me, its set in africa but some of the levels just looked too similar...
well... the area of spain that capcom used for 4 was barren and desolate much like africa is today (although i'm just guessing about the 5 backgrounds)
I'm personally debating whether or not to get it. It looks like a ton of fun, but at the same time it looks like the flaws hold it back such as sluggish controls and a fiddly inventory menu. I may get it, though I'm not too sure.

I think it was laking the scary part. It is a great game and I really love it, but it failed to scare me like Res 4. Oh, it was scary the first time a dogs head split in half but by the fifth time it was losing its affect. This is because of two things, one: you in the day most of the game and if you not there is lights everywere. two: having a partner isn't as scary as being alone, if they split you up more and had more night levels it would be much scarier.

Since when does every good sequel have to have a .5 at the end? Is there something I missed? Are games now just half instead of wholes? Or are people to fucking annoying and pretentious to shut the fuck up and enjoy the game?

nah it doesnt seem like a sequel though, i reckon if this game got released before the 4th one, it would be more liked, it just wouldnt make any sense rofl,

Well they have very similar controls. I think 5 has better controls though. I don't have to pause it to pull out a new weapon and I can sidestep.
Apart from 4,5 and Umbrella Chronicles I haven't played any other RE games. From what I understand research labs are common levels in those games.

yeah, its a virus, the labs they come from are gonna feature fair enough
maybe i just lost my love of resi evil, i wasnt really content with number 4 being a proper resident evil, i love the dodgy camera angles and stuff, when i heard they were scrapping the beta in favour of over shoulder cam, i died a little inside rofl

So they "updated" it into the center of Africa? If Capcom can update themselves into anywhere in the world, then why can't I update myself into Hawaii?
I'll get 5 if they ever release a Wii edition (like they did for 4). FPSing just seems to fit more naturally into the Wii, in my opinion. (Maybe because it feels more like you're actually holding and aiming a gun?)

Yeah, it really does play just like Resident Evil 4 but with co-op. It re-uses a lot of the set pieces and challenges. So I guess if you love co-op and RE4 then this is the game for you. I hate playing it co-op though because my friends keep playing it like it's Gears of War. If I hear them begging for some of my ammo one more goddamned time, I'm playing solo.
I have yet to get the game but based on the trailers I've seen, it looks like there's a lot of level variety.
RE4 had many similar looking places, but it never bored me... it was equally frustrating as hell and tons of fun at the same time. I would expect RE5 to be similar to that... except with pretty graphics this time.
Personally, I thought Capcom had a great thing going with Resident Evil 3.5 but... 4 was still very good.
Okay Resident Evil 4 only has three settings, a village which yes you could say is similar is some vague ways to the African village but wait... they're both villages so DUH...
Then theres a castle, and an 'island' with like research labs and junk.
Resident Evil 5 has 6 chapters, and at least one setting per chapter. Theres a lot more variety, and I find a lot of people who complain about this game so much haven't actually played it. The controls are fine, in fact they are identical to RE4 so, just learn them. If you're a gamer it should take you less than a 'part' (like 1-1) to learn them... and then you'll be survivin horrors like the best of them.
I can't even almost see how you think RE5 looks like four... it has numerous varied locations just off the top of my head you go to...
A poor seeming African village, a couple docks, down a road in a machine gun touting vehicle(savannah), an oil refinery, ancient ruins, a tribal village in the marshes, a very large ship (carrier? :S), a giant research lab, a train station, on a stealth bomber, through caves, and last but definitely not least INSIDE A MUTHAFUCKIN VOLCANO!
so I'm not buying your argument at all, but nice try stating 'its just like this... umm... BECAUSE!' how about stating things you thought seemed similar in an intelligent fashion? No? Ok!
Also to people trying to decide on this game, if you played RE4 and liked it this is a no brainer. This game is better in my opinion, but at the very least it plays and feels great, like another RE4-esque adventure but in a completely new setting with a new story and characters and such. If you've never played RE4 and don't want to 'risk' buying RE5 because people say that the traditional controls of the series they never bothered to get used to are too 'awkward' or what have you, then why not buy RE4? Its a lot cheaper and a fantastic game!
Anyways I should probably do work. Between all the RE5 I'm playing and escapist lurking I'm likely to fail out of skewl
What he said. All assholes can do these days is whinge, whinge, whinge. Personally, I love the game. I stayed up until 12:30 playing it with a mate one night. I then realised I had work at 8 the next morning.
