Lengthy Labyrinth Levels Littered with Corpses.

No, but in all seriousness; Who here in the Escapist Forums would like to see Sherry Birkin risking life and limb in the newest installment of Biohazard with little more than a combat knife, Her (Inherently Brilliant) intellect, and a Baretta she probably inherited from Claire?

I think the FPS bullshit needs to stop, and who better than a young blonde kid who nearly got raped by her Zombified G-virus Father to show us the way to a new and better Resident Evil.

PS: Capcom won't care anyway so Might as well say what you want.

As much as i love Resident Evil and i really do it needs to not use 4's camera angle and somewhat silly gameplay tactics but you suggested a combat knife which doesn't exactly sound exciting and fair since all Resi games have involved the use of guns but the game would be nice if it actually had T-Virus zombies again instead of some mind control bullshit.

As far as enemies concerned we'll only be seeing zombies again if a source outside of Umbrella screws with their black market bought T-Virus. Though with RE5's gameplay and a screen full of zombies it'd be interesting to see what Capcom could to with Resident Evil.

Probably best at this point would be for Capcom to release something with some life to it. It'd be really awesome if they released an Outbreak File #3. With today's online community it would be a brilliant experience. But we'll see how Raccoon City turns out eh?

Personally I want to see more of Billy and Rebecca. What became of them after the Mansion Incident and Raccoon City? I would imagine that Rebecca would have joined the BSAA and possibly recommended Billy, him being a trained soldier and a survivor himself. I should think that future games will either focus on other BSAA members, fresh or familiar faces, and new situations they have to deal with.

Resident Evil needs, first and foremost, a reboot story wise. Aside from pursuing pointless little loose-ends, there is no reason to keep going with the current cast of characters and the current setting, as everything worth resolving has be resolved. Umbrella's dead, Wesker is dead, the Plaga threat is done. No need to keep going.

Following that, if they plan on keeping the same sort of gameplay the series has traditionally had, I'd recommend staying with the RE5 camera/control scheme. It works well, though I would personally change the inventory back to the way it was in RE4. They both work, I just prefer the Attache Case for min/max reasons >__>.

1. In RE6 you can play as Birkin or Redfield
2. RE isn't a horror series anymore (i don't like it either but it's the truth)
3.RE6 is the last RE before the reboot so they are probably gonna end it with the most action-packed bang ever

Er...Sherry Birkin was raped by William Birkin. (In the mouth!)

She also became pregnant from that. (We're going good places with this...)

So yeah. Sherry is actually locked away in some top secret government facility. According to the data files in RE5 anyway. As is Manuela from Darkside Chronicles.

Billy died in the Raccoon City Forest. Everyone else is kind of obvious. Anyway, yeah, if a new RE game is going to happen that isn't a prequel, it'll have to be a reboot. Which technically Operation Raccoon City is, I guess. But that's more of a 'What if' type of thing.

If I not mistaken, in the series cannon, both Billy and Rebecca are dead...

Man this sucks, do they really need Resident Evil 6? Can they just reboot it and fix this mess that has became the series?

On other hand, they may add things from the movies series... Oh god... Resident Evil is fucked either way, isn't?

How hard do you want me to laugh? A lot? A little? Start with one and work into another?

Seriously though, I'm an RE fan that bought the bloody books and I can't make sense of that story line going on in the games/books world, let alone the Movie alternate universe they're running around with. Re-boot is the ONLY way they can make sense. A reboot to this game that is the same as napalm is to gardening.

Source? Rebecca was still alive during the events of Resident Evil 2 as evidenced by 'Rebecca's Report':

On July 23rd, an MP vehicle was found inside the Arklay Mountains. Corpses of MP members and an unidentified body were found near the vehicle. According to the information from military authorities, the unidentified body was identified as former 2nd Lieutenant Billy Coen (mispelled "Koen"), who was sentenced the death penalty following a court-martial on July 22nd.

While Coen was on transfer via Marine MP escort, they must have experienced some kind of accident. The corpses were severely mauled, apparently torn apart by unidentified wild animals. The following day we returned to the location to recover the bodies but they were nowhere to be found. Military authorities have requested that we turn over Coen's body as proof of his death, but due to the circumstances described above, it will be a difficult task to recover the corpse. I am requesting that this case be temporarily closed until further notice.

Raccoon City Police Department

S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team
Rebecca Chambers
And given that Claire, Chris, Jill and Leon made it out and if I'm not mistaken there's a file in RE5 that has her down as being one of the last remaining S.T.A.R.S. members. Billy is even more of a mystery though. He was never mentioned again and judging from Rebecca's report (which was false) he's considered dead by authority.

But if Capcom really do insist on twisting and turning the already convoluted mess that is the Resident Evil canon, there needs to be a definitive ending before they reboot.

Few things-
A: Sherry would have to be older, making the characters ALL older, Sherry needs to be about 15-16 to stand a chance.
B: Combat knives suck and
C: She wouldn't "Inherit" a "Baretta" from Claire, because firstly it's "Beretta" with an E and Claire never used a Beretta when she met Sherry, her gun in RE2 was a Browning HP

The source it's "random stuff that I read on wikipedia"... I think it was while I was reading about some of the books, but I don't know if they are considerate cannon to the franchise. It's a mess... Better not to give much though.

It is. Maybe one day we'll get a nice flowchart from Capcom that will clear everything up. That's a good idea for their next Resident Evil title, a huge poster that chronicles the canon of the entire series... better clear some wall space!

Hey yeah...what happened to Sherry Birkin? Also; what happened to Barry Burton, Rebecca Chambers, Billy Coen, Ada Wong, Carlos Oliveira....and HUNK.

Dang...if Capcom can't cook up a decent story with the main characters and the abovementioned (especially Sherry) then they need to call it quits and sell the rights to the franchise.

Sherry Birkin is, as I said, in a Government facility.

Burton was sent to rescue Leon on one of his missions and, Resident Evil being Resident Evil, it turns into a giant clusterfuck and everyone dies besides Barry, Leon, and a young girl named Lucia (Who was a survivor of the incident). After it's over, Barry adopts Lucia and goes to be a father or whatever.

Rebecca wrote an official report on what happened in Raccoon City and then 'retired'. (She basically re-integrated back into society and stayed away from anything dealing with the zombies/BOWs)

Billy died in the Raccoon City Forest shortly after the end of Zero.

Ada...no idea. A few files in RE5 mentioned that she was still working for Wesker, but Wesker is dead now. So...

Carlos is an unknown as well. Never mentioned again after 3.

I'm going to guess because it's CAPCOM, it's going to be a reboot again of the series.
Because CAPCOM is like that.

Yeah capcom really need to start over, there are so many gaps in the story, plotholes, loose ends and missing characters who seem to have dissappeared into the fucking abyss (Barry, Ada, Rebbecca etc.) that the only way to make anything decent of all this crap is to flush it down the toilet and start over. This time with a story that makes sence. And ya'know make it SCARY again instead of mowing down brainwashed people.

I honestly miss the desperation you felt during the first few games: "For the love of God, I can take another zombie but if another Crimson-Head shows up, I will burst into tears because I have 10 more bullets and no herbs" kinda thing.
I'd like to see what happened to Sherry, what happened to Steve Burnside's body and maybe tie up all the loose ends in one great game to finish it all. It probably won't happen but I can dream.

Well RE6 will be the first one you can move and shoot, apparently.
But i personally think the only think they should change is say go back to the RE4 briefcase thing and make less broken final bosses (idont like the RE5 final boss, i think it relys too much on luck).

Ok there is the complaint that its not scary anymore, but i donth think resident evil has ever been scary, fun yes, scary, not so much.
Well, besides the story, cause its getting to the point where not only do i have trouble following it with a story guide, but im not sure how much of it is taking the mick.
Also random bits of RE5 in the last film for little or no reason...

Anyways, if rumours are true of a reboot afterwards, then i can see then tying up every loose end ever in the manner of mgs 4 and while it might be fun to have the whole gang running around, that would most likely end up a bit of a mess story wise like RE5 did at points.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City will let you run and gun.

As did the Outbreak games.
