But wait capcom. Resident Evil was already re-made, for the Gamecube. It got excellent reviews and high praises, remember? Capcom? Why are you ignoring us?...CAPCOM?.....CAAAAAAPPPCOOOOOOOOM!!

Unlike that other Capcom title that got rebooted, this one actually needs it.
Sadly... Yeah. I'll agree.

OT: I'd rather they didn't need to, but they do. If Capcom wants any hope of salvaging this franchise, it needs to go back to basics. If it were up to me (clearly it's not, but still) I'd consider the Gamecube remake to be the first game, then take it from there. Do a re-release of that (multi-platform of course) then follow up with a sequel.
And if I were to make any change to the way Resident Evil plays, it'd be to go with the control scheme they built for the Resident Evil 4 prototype (also dubbed 3.5). It used the fixed camera angles of the originals, but when you aimed it slid into the over-shoulder perspective of 4. Now that, right there, would be a good step on the road to putting some horror back into these games.

I completely agree with you. The ONLY issue with that game, was the backtracking. But at the same time, it would've died without it.

I think what needs to happen here is either find a way to make the backtracking interesting, or change the environments a little bit each time you're forced to go through them. Go down a corridor, next time you go through it the ceiling's collapsed. Things like that. You as the player will never have seen what happened, which will also add some mystery and sensation that other things are going down separate from your story.
At least, that's my ten cents on it. Heck, so long as we don't get another Resident Evil 5/6 I'd put up with the damn backtracking.

To be fair, the older titles had a good twist on backtracking. I remember in RE2 the first time you walk down a police hall corridor everythings A-Ok. Then the 2nd, FUCKING HANDS BURST FORTH TO GRAB YOU. Im not saying thats super awesome, but it shook things up.

Considering I stopped paying attention after 4 a reboot might be in order but I doubt they could recreate the "magic".

I hope so, I hope they do anything other than what they did last year. I didn't like 4 or 5 but I could understand why they went that way, but Operation Raccoon City and 6 - look horrible, I cannot imagine myself buying those even if I had an extra thousand dollars laying around, and they wee on sale, at a store closing, and were like two dollars a piece. Just do something else with the series, please, try to go back to the old formula, try to bring the new camera system into the old system, hire another company to make it, any company, even one I hate, cause I don't want Resident Evil to die.

I think it's funny that fans have been saying for years that the issue is that game isn't scary and not exciting. RE6 was the height of them moving away from the games roots. It's like getting hit by a car 10 times before realizing you should not step in front of cars. They come off as really stupid. I say reboot the living shit out of it. I would prefer to see one of my favorite game series survive via reboot into what it was, rather than see it get torn apart again and again by people because they move ever further away from the series roots. I will say that I think 4 was the perfect RE game. I don't want a clone, but I sure as hell would love to get another game like that.

BUT (intentionally capitalized as it's a big but), thank the gods. A reboot would be fine. In all honesty, the thing that fucked RE6 the most was the abominable controls. They literally took all the fun out of the game. They were the most tanky they had ever been. And the camera was up your characters ass the entire time. Character rotation was painfully slow with the fastest of settings. I honestly thought it was awesome where they unleashed the virus on such a large scale. I had no problems at all with the characters. The guns were "meh".... but those controls, holy shit how did that get released. Was there literally no one in the studio who was like, "wait a sec, these controls are terrible, time to rethink this". Then they destroyed the replay value with that terrible perk system. It's just aweful. Gun upgrades from 4 and 5 were so much better I can't express it enough.

Ok, my rant is done. I bought revelations on the 3DS and I'll gladly but it again on the PC. I will however never buy RE6 again. With RE5 I waited till it was on sale and bought it cheap on my PC after playing it ridiculously on the console. But that will not happen again. We would be far better off never having it on the PC.

Wha- what? Capcom is considering a reboot of RE? A reboot that I thought I'd only ever dream of? Well that's definitely a start! I just hope they follow through with it, that'd make me the happiest REfan on earth!

A reboot is really the only way forward when you've fucked a game up THAT badly. I have zero trust in them getting it right eventually, but will be checking out any developments.

So fucking true...

Though Im hoping if they do decide to reboot the franchise, they atleast pass it off to someone thats competent[footnote] Why yes, I have tried the new DmC, why yes, I was rather put off with it (I dont even give a shit about Dante, its just the whole game in general...)[/footnote]...

I'm looking forward to the scene where the new jailbait Jill Valentine gets a fruit stand overturned on top her. Then when two water melons land on her chest she'll look down at them and say "Maybe for a sweet sixteen present."
That made me laugh more than I should have.

I think they started jumping the shark in the newer games and definitely need to try something new, as resident evil 6 obviously didn't really work. The idea of an open world resident evil is sort of interesting, if you can imagine traveling through raccoon city with little ammo and trying to dodge those zombies on that street and- wait what was that noise? OH CRAP LICKERS RUN RUN RUN

sounds maybe alright if they make it actually in to a horror game for a change instead an action packed shooting gallery. hell, even the blade movies have more horror then the latest RE games.

I don't really see why a reboot is necessary, how about they just make good games instead.

That shit me up the first time, and I'm just doing a playthrough of Resident Evil 2 again. Guess what? Shit me up again. It's just such an effective tactic. You have to run past those broken ass boards a half dozen times, lookin' all eerie and shit. You're already tense and when it happens, chances are you're distracted too, so takes you completely off-guard.

Man I wanna feel that kinda fear again. No idea why, just do.

So, if they start from the very beginning...how many remakes of the original Resident evil would that make?

I mean for fucks sake, it's probably competing with Sid Meier's pirates! for number of versions released by now.

That depends on what you consider a remake. If you consider any rerelease with minor additions or changes to be a remake, then there's Director's Cut, Deadly Silence and the Sega Saturn version in addition to the REmake.

If you just consider actual remakes, then there's just the GC REmake, which was also rereleased on the Wii (without changes).

So if they do just remake the first RE, it will be the second time. If they actually reboot it, it will be the first.

Honestly, considering how convoluted the canon is already I'm fine with taking a step back and trying something new. Am I the only one that was intrigued by what the Resident Evil 4 beta could've brought to the table with a more paranormal bent to it?

its alright. i personally hated RE4. terrible controls and one of the poorest pc ports i ever came across. anyway, the idea is good and i woulndt mind if they stick the third person view. hell i woulndt even mind if they give us the option to play in first person view.
but as i stated earlier, i want more horror and not an monster around every corner plus shooting 50 bullets in to it.

the tomb raider reboot looks at least good and i really hope it will be good and successful. i expect more or less the same from capcom.
