Hey Escapists,
I come to you with an unorthodox question which has proved elusive to find answers to on the internet; one which will require some considerable knowledge of the 2002 REmake of Resi 1.

Put simply, I want to play REAL SURVIVAL mode, because one of my pet peevs are the interconnecting item boxes. I've tried playing it just segregating my items in the list, but that quickly gets convoluted. Now, the issue here is that REAL SURVIVAL is only unlocked once you complete ONCE AGAIN... The crux of my question is this:

Can you play ONCE AGAIN... As the alternate character. For example: I complete the game as Chris, then play ONCE AGAIN... as Jill, thus unlocking REAL SURVIVAL. Is that viable? If not, then to Hel with it.

The annoying thing is I've already played the game enough in the past to play that mode, I just lost the memory card for it. Or, more to the point, my special Resi memory card went missing from it's slot in my Chainsaw pad back home... Most suspicious. Anyhow, I would appreciate any help you dudes can provide.

ADDITIONALLY, for want of a more fruitful thread; are you a Resi fan and, if so, do you enjoy the 2002 Remake? Personally I think it, and 0, are amongst the best titles in what was once my most beloved franchise, though I also recognise them as the start of the slow, downward spiral the series has taken...

Once Again is essentially New Game Plus, with the option of choosing a new difficulty for it. To unlock Real Survival you have to beat Once Again on HARD difficulty (or by some some accounts, on NORMAL but in under 5 hours). I guess Real Survival lets you choose your character anew, since it doesn't require you to load a saved game. But I'm not 100% sure.

For the record you can unlock "One Dangerous Zombie Mode" (Forest Speyer's zombie chases you around the mansion and if you shoot him you blow up yourself since it's carrying grenades, though I think you can knife him) by beating the regular game with both Chris and Jill; you can also unlock "Invisible Zombie Mode" by beating the game twice with both Chris and Jill (so beat the regular game once with each, then once each in Once Again).

Fairy snuff... I've no qualms with doing once again on Hard mode, I like Resi games to be tough as nails ^_^ I just wish all these modes were available off the bat... I also wish your could combine One Dangerous Zombie with Real Survival: Forest was always, quite inexplicably, my favourite character.

That didn't unlock Real Survival Mode for me back in the day. I think that unlocks the Beretta M93R "Samurai's Edge" handgun, though. It has infinite ammunition, fires more rapidly than the regular Beretta M92F, and has a higher chance of scoring a one-hit kill headshot.

I'm not 100% sure on the same character business. Once Again requires you to load a saved game, so it makes sense that you would have to do it all over with the same character, but I'm not sure. Real Survivor should be with different characters though.

Also, Real Survival doesn't have auto aim. Combine that with non-Euclidean item boxes and that should be a pretty challenging experience.

Woop woop, that's what we want!

Well... That and no go back in time a slap Capcom for ruining their best game series, but alas; that's what happens to all of em, I suppose.

If I recall correctly, loading a CLEAR save will bounce you back into the main menu with the new options. You should be able to pick a new character after picking Once Again.

Enjoy One Dangerous Zombie.

Also, OT: I put the REmake and RE4 as tied for the Magnum Opus of the series, though the moment I'm leaning towards 4.

That's a fair call. Resi 4 is definitely a damn fine game, and still one of the best actiony-thrillery type things we've had, but I can't bring myself to call it Resident Evil (or Biohazard, for that matter). I draw the line at Code Veronica and consider 4 an excellent spin-off exploring a different genre. "The New Adventures of Leon and Ada: Attack of the Disgruntled Spaniards".

That's the thing though, like with Halloween 3, the series would have been miles better off if they went in that direction. Imagine going up against a new threat every game?

Though I really wish that they go back and release the Resi 2 Beta. Along with Resi 2 and 3 in the style of the REmake. In HD.

I WANT MAH CUSTOM SHOTGUN.

Hello, I just hopped over to my gamecube, popped the game in, loaded a Jill Clear Save, brought back to main menu, chose Real Survivor and was brought to character selection to choose between Chris and Jill.
