Resistance 2 co-op question

Against my better judgement I came home from work today with a nice fresh copy of resistance 2. While I still don't think the first game was anything super-special I'm willing to admit that the co-op play, complete with revivals and unique character models, made the seemingly stodgy single-player campaign into something that resembled fun.
Anyway I digress. I picked up the second game today and intend to play it with my girlfriend's kid when he gets home from school today. One thing is bothering me though. It says in the manual I can play through a 'unique co-op experience' which is kind of worrying because while I apreciate good (if stolen wholesale from team fortress 2) original co-op missions I was really looking forward to playing the regular campaign co-op.

So does the regular campaign allow two players to play through it in a similar manner to the first?

Edit: Waiting for the kid to finish the first game before we start the first. That's why I haven't played it yet.

It's a seperate campaign if I remember correctly. I don't think you can play through the normal single player with more than one player.

I'm probably not going to bother with the single player then. Shame.

Edited: Yep. Just fired it up and it's co-op missions only. No co-op campaign which is, for a first console first person shooter in this day and age, criminal.

Also the co-op character models are fucking hideous. The spec ops looks like he was ripped from a half life mod.

Meh I think it's kind of dumb to drop people into split screen for the campaign, it's better to do a seperate set of missions. The single player is meant to present the game in a certain way, why break it just for co-op? BTW the game rocks got it yesterday ot to the fourth level or so.

No it isn't. Some people enjoy playing through the campaign in co-op. It made the original game better (playable) and certainly didn't harm the likes of Halo or Doom.

Canada baby. All of America's early releases but none of the gun crime.

Yeah, I remember hearing something along those lines... There's like single story mode, co-op story mode (dunno how many players it supports though) and 64 player one multiplayer games.

8 players I believe. It's very impressive (shitty character models aside) it's just a shame you can't play through the main campaign with a friend which is pretty much why I bought it. I'll still play it, it's just going to to the bottom of the pile.

And none of those really strived for a story experience. While Resistance 2 goes for a much more grittier tells a slight story experience.

Also just play the Co-Op. Its fucking awesome how much you must rely on your teamates and such so its nearly impossible to be a one man army.

I wasn't interested in this game and I could give a rip about co-op gameplay.

However-

My roommates love co-op and eagerly await any and all titles which feature co-op. When they popped this game in and messed around in the non-campaign co-op mode for about 45 minutes, they took it back to the store and traded it back in.

So that should tell you something.

Here are a few conversations me and the boy had during the first game.

The boy in this case is my girlfriend's son who is at the tender age of twelve and although he did grow up on a diet of preposterous JRPG bullshit, I have managed to instill in him a taste for fine action games. He is also ginger. This is pertinent.

Him: "So they've dug a bunch of tunnels and they use them to attack people?"
Me: "Yes."
"So like the Cockroaches in Gears of War right?"
"Locust and I suppose so. Although the locust didn't build huge towers and shit"
"So they're ripping of Gears of War and half life?"
"Uh."

Me:"Hey a shotgun"
Him: "Cool what does it do?"
"It launches a bunch of metal filings at things in order to kill them"
"No i mean what's it's secondary mode. It's other fire thingy."
"Oh. It does a double blast"
"That sucks. Why not just give us two shotguns?"

Him: "I've seen that spider tank before"
Me: "It does look like the land stalker in Ratchet:deadlocked"
"It even has the same name Kind of"
"Well yeah. It's the same guys who did Ratchet and Clank"
"I wish this was a ratchet and Clank game"

"How come the aliens always use spiky grenades in every game?"

"Oh. Another convenient cave in blocking our path. How suprising"

Him:"I like the fareye. But it sucks that time slows down for both of us. Do you think they could make it so time only slows down for one person"
Me: "Not without radically changing the laws of physics I would imagine"
"Do you think they could do it on the 360?"
"Probably not."
