Okay so iv given resistance 1 and 2 a try and never got into it too much, but 3 looks damn good. story wise, do i really need to play the first 2 first (is the story a straight continuation)?

The story picks up a few years after the Second Game. The second and first games put you in the shoes of Nathan Hale, the first human to survive being infected by the Chimera. He dies at the end of the second game, and you play as his sidekick Joe in Resistance 3. Earth has gone through a portal into a different star system, or even dimension maybe. The Chimera have overrun earth, and only a few people have survived in North America.

I recently inherited my brother's PS3 after years of owning an Xbox 360 and I got the original Resistance as it was one of the games I had seen and been tempted to buy a PS3 just to play (The other being killzone 2)... I was underwhelmed by it.
I know it was a launch title so it probably dated badly but I'm going to skip Resistance 2 and maybe chance my arm on Resistance 3 when I see it second hand somewhere.
Just my two cents, but I think going straight to Resistance 3 is a good bet.
