I've been playing some Resistance 3 Multiplayer for a couple of days, want to let you guys know what i think. Rough draft, since its coming out on PSN soon anyway, so you can try it yourself!
First, Choose your loadout. "sniper" custom skills "Ammo Beacon" and "leaper corpse" with a landmine and press X to start the fight. Lo and behold.....its GREEN! Not brown! Im in an abandoned town in Wales. Green grass and moss grow on the ground, theres a muddy creek down the middle of the map, looks like aliens have invaded the shire. Dilapidated housed sprinkled around me. Go inside its dark and musty but the doorways are covered with a flesh-colored....WEB, of some sort. Pink cocoons in the corners. Im playing War of the Worlds...the games. Itfeels as though were all thats left, even if we just killed eachother, animals would just come and eat our bodies and noone would even know.
My character isnt a soldier. Hes wearing a wool sweater and a knit cap, and he usually throws a tin can with a fuse on it as a hand grenade. This isnt Space Marines, this is Hobo With A Shotgun.
The life meter recharges when you dont get hit for a moment, but not instantly. You have to sit and breather for a time while it fills up. Which is good, because youre not wasting your time when you shoot someone like ive played in other games. Everyone feels solid and....rooted somehow. You have time to actually PLAY as you try to kill eacother. Havent had to circle strafe to kill someone in a long time.
The other level ive been playing is an abandoned train yard. Classic feeling map, symmetrical and small, and yes, BROWN, but Great Depression era brown, with pastel train cars crashed around the map. Nice and appropiate. And brown.

The Weapons.

The weapons in this game are great. You can pick a premade class, or make your own class. You can put down Shield Bubbles, temporary shield bubbles that block bubbles but people can walk through. Never feels like cheating, the other person can simply walk inside and cap you and you cant shoot through it either. See who has the quickest reflexes.... Or a healing beacon, which does what you think it does. And turrents. and more....
And theres sub abilities, like Strapped, which give you more ammo, or my favorite....Leapers. When you die, torso-sized bugs crawl out of your body and try to eat the enemies around you. Very satisfying. IF they would just take the time to shoot them, they are not the problem, and if it wastes their time, thats all I ask. But its so very satisfying dying in a small room and watch the person kill me slowly get eaten alive in a corner.

Kill streaks are also good. Three in a row, get a forward facing shield for humans, turn invisible for aliens. THe highest ive seen is you go MEGA, for the aliens you turn into a giant 9 foot tall alien with a grenade launcher. For humans, you turn into...a 9 foot tall human made out of homemade potmetal armor. Very strange seeing this for the first time. "whats an evil dead 3 reject doing here?"

Theres so many weapons and abilities to mix and match, but none of them ever surpass you and your gun. Everyone is killable, and you always have a chance. They are just useful tools to help you shoot people until they die. Everything still feels rooted in survival.

Headshots also dont happen as much. If you havent noticed, they give you a slight auto aim in most games, makeing headshots much more likely. In this, you actually have to shoot their head....to get a headshot. Crazy, I know. Makes the fights that much more interesting.

I give it an A+. If well worth it as half the game, especially after the epic looking single player game.

I am very glad to hear this; mostly because I was left somewhat dissatisfied with Insomniac's previous installments of Resistance, but maybe this will be the one I finally get into. For sure gonna download the beta if a can, and will definitely buy it when it releases.

If you played the first 2 resistance games, do you feel like them reducing the size of the games from 32 to 16 has made the game better or worse.

I just feel like since they took out the large scale battles, the multiplayer doesn't have enough to set it apart from the Call of Duties, and all of their ripoffs.
