Once you've already paid, you have strong grounds to take them to court of they charge more on a pre-agreed deal.

On a side note, it wouldn't hurt to stick an "is" in the middle of that article title... I mean, seriously, "Retailer's PS4 Preorder Ransom Illegal Says Trading Standards" makes absolutely no sense at a first glance - and article titles should be all about giving the most accurate idea at a glance, or failing that at least try to catch my attention. Having such a nonsensical title is just off-putting.

Wait, so they're telling people who've already pre-ordered the product to give them more money?

Yeah? thats clearly illegal. Someone call the police.
They already have, hence why the trade commission has come out and said it is illegal and that their investigating. Simply Games will be fined heavily.

The police would point you to the court, the court would point you to congress, and congress would slap SG on the back and wipe away a single tear of pride as they say "They grow up so fast"

EDIT: The real problem here is this; most customers are probably gonna go along with it out of sheer apathy.
Err, this isn't the US where corporations can do as they please, this is the UK where (like Australia, New Zealand and most nations) it is illegal and they will be screwed badly for this bullshit. The customers will get their refunds if they want them.

I know that doesn't fly in Canada. You advertise one price, you sell it for that price or less. Companies try to get around that by including bullshit fees.
I heard the biggest problem in there is that the prices in stores are shown as pre-tax and thus person has to personalyl calculate all the taxes to know its actual price. this sounds complletely dridiculous to me coming from a country where the price show is the price you pay everywhere.
It depends on the province. Not including sales tax isn't really a problem because we have an education system that teaches basic math and they set the tax to a round 5 or 10%.

Ex. Buying something for $19.98 in Saskatchewan. Round up to $20.00, %5 National and %5 Provincial consumer taxes, so 10% total. 10% of $20.00 is $2.00. Total price is $22.00. Basic math.

BAsic math to you and me. average consumer will think its 20, compare to another shop that includes the tax already (22) and think its cheaper here. Then again you canadians maybe are smarter than the rest of the world...
