I know the majority of the Escapist population is young but I'm 21 and already have retirement activities planned out. It boils down to travel and dive into philosophy for a bit. Does anyone here have retirement plans?

I don't. I may be 21, but I like to be spontaneous in life, so I don't plan anything beyond next month.

An Hero. I don't look forward to getting old, I have no family who really care so I'd prefer not to spend the rest of my time in an old folks home unable to do things and never be visited.

Nah thx I'm far too young for that.
Well except if I join the army, then I get to retire at the age of 35. If I live.

Wow, this got a little dark. I look at 40ish for retirement but I guess I don't work the "normal" job.

I hope I am dead before I hit the age where you're too crippled to do much. If not, I may start doing drugs because, at that age, who cares.

Never I take care of myself and my health as well as I possibly can and work as often as possible, if my body ever deteriorates to such a point where I cant do any of these things then I'll consider retiring.

I'm a vagabond rogue, I've lived in the Alps, South of France, Ibiza for 3 months a year and Spain. You don't really think about retirement when you travel like that.

I know I should because its the responsible thing to do but it doesn't conform to my personality.

Good lord, do half the people here know about retirement?

Retirement is around the 60 mark, I know plenty of healthy 60+ year olds. If you're talking about wearing diapers and stuff add another 20 some years to that and then consider it.

Personally I just look forward to having a little place, maybe a garden and some grandchildren to dote on, sounds good to me.

Yeah, at that age you can say and do what you want, I remember my friends grandpa saying "she looks like a whore" about someone, and my friends sister said "ohh Grandpa, you're so eccentric!"

No he's not eccentric, he's a horrible old man!, but we just let it slide.

Uhm...die?

Seriously, people in my family don't get old enough to worry about that kind of thing - at least, not without some major incentives to bite the bullet, literally.

Nothing says "death with dignity" like wearing diapers and forgetting who you've been married to for sixty years.
Indeed, Max said it best regarding not being able to control your own bowels at that age, I wouldn't want that for myself, just give me a load of diomorphine (its delicious).

Also your family die young?, mine do too, all cancer related, they hit 40-50 and bang!

I'm a smoker myself, you know, being French, we are the worlds greatest smokers!.

If the rest of my family is any indication then I should have around ten years of good health after I retire in which to travel around the world.

awww thats a very sweet sentiment, but how old are you?

I remember being young and in love, its like nothing else matters, then you become bitter.

I'm 18 and only thinking as far ahead as 21, and that's only because I'm getting a pistol that birthday. No retirement plans here.

I'm fully aware.
65, here.
And I'm saying if I live that long, I'll probably wish I hadn't, unless medical science really improves.
Stupid genes are trying to kill me.
Something medically wrong with you or are you just expecting your bowels to suddenly stop functioning?
"That's it old bean, Maxi hit 65 time for us to pull the plug on this operation. Tahiti, here we come"

Not unless you count "bad genes."
And I never mentioned bowels.

Alzheimers, heart disease, not living to see 60, all of these things run in my family.
Also addictive personalities, which probably helps.
I know you didn't mention bowels in that post but you did mention diapers earlier, did you not?
I didn't know your genes suck like that, I thought you where just one of those that say.
"I don't want to get old because I don't want to soil myself" for no real reason.

No offence broski.
