So, I was thinking of buying a retro game...you know, from back in the day..but I don't know what game I should get? What game should I buy so I can bring back memories of my youth?

Edit: I'm sorry, I did not give details. Just that I started playing when Atari was around and we didn't get a Nintendo until 1989.

If you want to bring back memories of your youth, then why don't you just find a game that you played when you were young?

Depends on what you consider to be 'retro'. Is it only 80s stuff or are you one of the people who think that 90s games can also be thrust into that category?

PC? Console? What era are you considering retro?
I am replaying American McGee's Alice personally.

Dunno, what years would you consider "retro" for the sake of bringing back your nostalgia?

Personally, Super Mario RPG is a really good example of a game I played in my early gaming years that brings back tons of memories.

your post lacks details so I'll tell you what I did.

When I first started looking back, I didn't know about Play-N-Trade and didn't trust Amazon so I ended up grabbing a Gamecube since that's as far back as I could go and, I never had one when they were big. With Gamecube in hand, I picked up Paper Mario. All was good in the world...until I forgot about the Gamecube when I discovered Play-N-Trade and got a SNES, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and, Link to the Past.

I consider "retro" to be anything which predates the previous version of Microsoft Windows. As of this post, that's anything released before Windows Vista, which came out in 2006.

For my personal suggestions as to what to buy in the way of retro games: Commander Keen. It's a DOS classic, and can be found on Steam for $5. Here's a link to the Steam Store page: http://store.steampowered.com/app/9180/

Well, if you want to bring back memories of your youth, I have no idea when that was or what you played. If you want a piece of my youth, snag up some NES classics such as Dragon Warrior one through four, or if RPGs aren't your thing, Battletoads for beat-em-up platforming, or the Legend of Zelda for top-down adventure. If those are too mainstream, you could get Prince of Persia for platforming or Crystalis for top-down adventure.

Ooh, I second Crystalis. It's like the mutant offspring of Zelda and the Seiken Densetsu series, and well worth playing if you can track down a copy.

Pong. Or maybe Missile Command. Ooh, and a text adventure!

I jest, but a Sierra adventure title is what I'd play.
