This caught my attention because it has a new track by GUNSHIP, but I think the whole album is worth a listen. It's a John Carpenter tribute Retro Synth album. You can download it for free, or pay what you want.

Interestingly enough, John Carpenter released an 80's style synth album, very reminiscent of his older music, not too long ago:

Since we're on the subject of John Carpenter, I got a question about the music for The Thing.

You see, I'd gone and used it for a case of a group of anime-style characters going to the Mountains of Madness (in Antarctica) to find the dead city of the Elder Things (Yup, Lovecraft mythos) where they encountered Shoggoths (very Thing-like when you consider their abilities) that they had to get by in order to operate a transport device to get them off-world. That scene was basically a Lovecraft-Carpenter homage.

The full measure of the theme goes thusly...

At about four and a half minutes in, it busts into some loud and creepy organ music, of which I couldn't recall EVER hearing in the movie. Anybody have any idea why that's in there?
