Ok this is my first review, hope it's not as horrible as I think it is

This installment of ?The Sims? series involves some new changes; the first you may realize is a decreased amount of loading screens, in normal game play you may come across one or two, This is probably the biggest change from the older Sims games now if your sim goes to the grocery store no need to wait five minutes for it to load, you can just pop right over there.
The Second change you may notice is that the Personality selection has changed no longer will you increase or decrease traits with ?personality points? but you may now choose distinct traits like ?Good? and ?Evil?, and ?Green Thumb? and ?Virtuoso?. These traits determine your sim?s activities from how fast they gain certain skills to how the react to people and environments.

The Sims 3 also comes with more freedom with clothes and household items, before you had to select from preset colors and styles, but now using the ?style editor? you now have almost limitless ways so you can make you Sims style truly unique.
The world in The Sims 3 is far more open the in previous games, before you were restricted to going to stores and parks. Now not only can you go to the grocery store or a clothing department, but you can also go see a movie or watch a football game, you could go to the beach, or visit a spooky cemetery.

The career system has undergone some changes as well, no longer is your promotion just governed by your skills, number of friends and mood. A Member of the Rock Music career must also hold performances and have good standing with the rest of the band. A Journalist must write articles and interview neighbors. And so much more, you no longer need a vast social network to advance to the top unless you are in the political business or journalism career tracks.

Your transportation in no longer restricted to a cab or carpool, you now have the option to buy from a multiple collection of cars, or if you sim is more environmentally conscience or fitness oriented you can get a bicycle.

There are also several options which I found rather refreshing. In The Sims, your child never became an adult, it went from baby to kid and stayed a kid, FOREVER. In The Sims 2 you had a full age transition from baby to infant to child to teen to adult and then finally to elder, however the amount of time it took to transition was set, unless you had the elixir of life or you used cheats. Now in The Sims 3, you not only can choose between whether or not you Sims age but you can determine how fast they age as well, perfect if you like making stories with your Sims.

Lastly while your Sims are gaining skills going to work and socializing, so are their neighbors. In fact all NPC Sims act as if they were your Sim, if you left it alone with the free will option on. This allows for better story progression and helps insure you will never play the exact game twice.

Now with all these positive changes you may be thinking what?s wrong with it? I?ll tell you. One of the main problems is that it lags horrendously; in fact it lags so bad that you wish you had the old loading screens back. Another problem, which may just be a minor annoyance, is that when you start another sim in addition to a currently existing saved game, as opposed to the previous games, what you did on your previous game never happened in the new one, so if your sim reached the highest point in his career track and bought the most expensive house in the neighborhood, and you were to start a new game, The house would be vacant and your other sim will not exist in the new game, unless you edit the neighborhood before you start.

Despite these problems The Sims 3 is a great game and if you are a fan of The Sims and The Sims 2 you will enjoy The Sims 3.

Buy it.

How good is the building system? That's the main reason i play sims 2.
The Building system in The Sims 3 is almost Identical to that of The Sims 2 although you are given a lot more freedom, Your able to select from the preset selection, but you can also modify them to make your own styles, an example would be if you see a tile with a pattern you like but you want to change the color all you have to do is use the Create a Style tool and you can modify the color and pattern. There are a few more options in regards to windows and wallpapers but the biggest change has probably been more options in the roofing section. Other then that it's pretty much the same

You say it lags really bad? What computer are you running it on? My sister only has a laptop, an old laptop and I'm thinking of getting it for her. She isn't allowed to use my computer after a certain "incident" involving a prank with porographic material and her telling them I'm a sex freak. Wait... Why am I buying her this? Shes a massive *****!

1.5 Ghz, 900 Ram and an AMD Athlon Processor

E Machines EL 1200

Depending on how old the Laptop is it may be able to run, it actually doesn't take up as much space as The Sims 2 did, and It only really starts to lag badly after about an hour of game play on mine, and there are options you can change to make it run better.
