Revenge: How do you feel about it?

I'm all for it if the original crime is serious enough. I mean, obviously I like the justice system when it works and all, but if I was ever put into that sort of situation myself (if, for example someone were to rape or murder my sister)... yeah. I'd almost certainly end up in a lot of trouble, and I don't think I'd regret it.

Here's hoping I never have to find out.

This sort of revenge would be a true eye for an eye. The problem with this revenge is that someone innocent has to suffer.

If a person murdered my child, I would say that in that instance he has forfeited his own life. When you take the life of another, your own becomes worthless. I wouldnt mind such people to be declared outlaws. Killable by anyone without punishment.

Of course, there are circumstances...et cetera. But thats the general idea. The justice system is ok, but only for people that arent the scum of the earth.

I really feel that Revenge is only a wise option when in benefits something other than your lust for your own personal justice. Like a detective hunting down a serial killer who killed his family is good revenge, while say God of War's destroy everything to kill a guy who pisses me off just makes everything worse.

Ah, you mistake me I think. Killing Nikkis child...well...it might be seen as some kind of justice since Nikki had also killed Beatrixs' baby (or so she thought at the time), however Nikkis girl has not killed anyone, and as such I dont think she deserves to die regardless.

Killing Nikki and thus robbing Nikkis little girl of her mother however, IS justice. I dont know if Nikki had the girl when Beatrix was killed (cant remember the timeline atm, but I believe she did), but either way imo when Nikki kills Beatrix she forfeits her own life. If Nikki wanted her girl to grow up with a mum, DONT KILL PEOPLE.

Edit: On a bit unrelated note. I find the whole justice system to be utterly retarded. I wish the punishment was more in line with the crime.

For example:
You steal some goods from a store: Fuck Jail. You have to work it off, in addition to your regular work (if you have some) and might also have to pay for whatever security you need following you to make sure you pay off everything properly.

You drive like a maniac: You get your car taken away from you.

Its a bit more difficult with crimes of violence and such, but I'm open for suggestions

if you murder someone you get shot,, if you rape someone you get shot or taken away from society, replace prisons with things that benefit society, like just enslave criminals for a certain amount of time and make them work in a quarry...or something like that

I am more of a supporter of justice rather than revenge, while the two can seemingly overlap there is a differance. In an enviroment (the USA) where the statement that "this is a country of laws, not of justice" is truer than ever before this can be increasingly tricky, as more and more people, especially those in businesses, wind up putting themselves beyond the practice reach of the every man when it comes to getting justice through the established system and channels.

I feel that revenge has a habit of getting too out of control, too quickly, since it by it's very nature involves payback and making someone suffer for what they did, rather than just evening out the scales, or meting out proportional punishment.

It depends on what the other person did. It is always kind of petty, but in little things it doesn't matter. For bigger, more important matters, revenge is not the right choice. It won't solve anything, and will probably just result in escalation. That said, it is often hard to control your emotions, and revenge in the heat of the moment is excusable enough. Premeditated revenge is pointless.

You're probably right. Its been a while since I saw it, and I'm usually too busy going "shiiiiiiiiiiiiet check out the throwing knife!!" or something like that, to notice names

It's a dish that is best served cold, that's why I only exact vengeance during the Winter. So those who wronged me are probably safe for another 7 months or so.

Well as with any mostly selfish action I would have to say its great when I do bad when its against me(sarcasm). In most scenarios it is pretty much willingly avoiding the outcome with the most net good and letting bad things fester in every party just so you can feel good for a a moment or two.

It is something easy to say not to do, but when you feel incited to do it nothing much really stops you from condoning it.

Revenge might seem like a good idea, but in the end, what do you really get out of it? Say you avenge the death of a friend. You kill their killer, awesome, but does that bring your friend back? Nope. It may give you a sense of closure, but whose to say that the friend of the person you took revenge on won't come after you seeking vengeance as well? It could turn into a never ending chain of revenge. It's unlikely, but it could happen.

I am a hypocrite toward it since while I prefer forgiveness over revenge however I pass up the chance to get "even" with my former friends in High school. Yup it is all about being personal.
