It was a nice game, tho i think the thing i loved about the most was featuring the old classic "Why don't you do right" as part of soundtrack, mostly known for being Jessica's Rabbit song from "Who framed Roger Rabbit".
Gameplay was solid and story even managed to make some sense from time to time, despite being a little too drawn out at moment's. Could use a little less of annoying joyrides across the map back and forth, but eh, i suppose there is quite a big crowd that just likes riding in cars.

Honestly? I thought Mafia 2 was better. This felt more lite in the story department. Ok, the environments where as detailed as before, and the feel was awesome again, but really, I felt the main character was more of a smug git, heh.

Wait a second, did I just disagree with Russ Pitts about a videogame? Creepy...

In my opinion the game was way to short and the story wasn't that good, but still worth playing.

Finally a reviewer who gets it. I played the game before looking at reviews and loved every minute of it. It was just like Mafia, but better in every way, just like a true sequel should be. And you know what that is?

A linear game set in a non-linear world for immersion.

Did you hear that? Repeat it. Now repeat it again. Do you get it now? No, the game doesn't need a billion pointless side missions. This is not GTA IV. I wouldn't even really call it a "sandbox game", because you're not playing in a sandbox. If anything, I'd praise the game for not using invisible walls in the game world, and for letting you explore it.

I'm on the last mission right now... Stuck. Every time I move forward a step, three guys will come out of corners with shotguns while five more will cover them with Thompsons. =_=
Are you at the bit where you have to walk around a circular side of the building?

Thompson + walking = win.

I'm actually inside now. I just made it in, and you go down the stairs. I can do that alright, until you go down a hallway and there's a circular area you can take cover behind. Then guys come out the heezay with shotguns. I think if I try it again a few times, I'll eventually get it. Just made me rage quit twice already xD

You know, the PC version isn't hard, the cover system isn't clunky and the camera isnt whatever you said, either. If I wouldn't do the fun stuff like beat up cops while they're shooting at me or unload a whole clip into one guy, I'd be completing the game in no-time.

Gotta hate the battle with Derek and his invisible goons, though

Well, this glowering review shifted me from "Nah" to "Maybe when it's on sale". Good job.

I'm rather excited to get this game, when gamefly decides to send it to me. It's been on my watch list for some time now, and I can't wait to roll around in the immersion. Hooray for modern vintage appeal!

This was a great game, I cannot deny that. However, I think there are a few elements they could have added to make it truely amazing. First off, to me, the end of the game seemed like a brick wall, and not for the obvious reasons. I won't ruin it for those who haven't played it, but I think the story could have kept going, personally.

Secondly, and this is a complaint I've seen from other people, stop taking my stuff every couple of chapters. It got to the point where I wouldn't buy weapons because I knew I'd lose them in a couple of missions.

And thirdly, I'd have liked a car dealership. It may seem like a minor issue, but I was looking for a certain car I needed to complete my collection, and, as it usual is with me, the moment I started looking for it, they dried up, but as soon as I was preoccupied with a mission, they were everywhere. I'd have liked to be able to buy property as well, but it's just me.

Overall though, this is a definite contender for my overall Game of the Year.

I like Mafia 2 (despite it's mixed reviews).

I like how in Mafia (1) You joined the mob out of desperation, and in Mafia 2 you join out of "Fuck I was probably gonna end up there anyways." A lot of mob stories follow Mafia 1's example, so I half expected this one (Mafia 2) to do the same.

Maybe in Mafia 3, you can be an informant

This game was a huge disappointment

-They removed features they promised (to be sold later as DLC)
-The ending is abrupt with no closure and clearly shows DLC will be sold to continue the story
-playing through 3 of 14 chapters in 20 minutes
-more than one chapter consists of only ONE mission
-My crime family appears to only have about 6 people in it
-There's nothing to do between cutscenes
-I can't shoot from the car (maybe -I- wanted to lean out the window with a tommygun for a change!)
-there's no reason to step into a diner.
-there's way too many cops around
-there's no side missions (no hits, no insurance money, no roughing people up?)
-I'm a big tough mafioso, I wanna give some orders too dammit!
-theres no point in buying guns since you get them during missions and they eventually all get taken away at various points.
-a single GTAIV expansion has more mission content than this game

Okay after reading this review I only have one problem with the actual game, despite the fact that I haven't played it yet. That one problem is this: If there are news reports following the progress of Allied troops in Europe followed by a commercial telling me to "Harness the power of Hiroshima," I can definitely see something like that as breaking immersion. Apparently, in the Mafia universe the Hiroshima bombing happened BEFORE the capture of Berlin.

Anyways, other than the staggering ignorance of history, it looks like a pretty good game.

Excellent review. I'm teetering on the edge of buying this game, when I didn't really even think about it before.

Are you kidding me? xD Other than the fact that you see his final moments from his perspective and the screen begins to fade out, his death is announced on the radio!

I felt sick to my stomach watching that, it was so well done.

I agree it too made me sick to my stomach

If he was a rat, the feds could have just said he was dead, in order to throw off Vito and Co. Also he could have just blacked out due to blood loss, but if he was taken to a hospital in time, he could have survived

You're clutching at straws; he's definitely dead. The screen turns white for a start (follow the light and all that), and Joe or Vito even say he's dead too - they'd know if someone was dead when they're right in front of them. Not to mention they were cutting him all over, so they'd have cut open most of his veins. I can accept that some people thing Joe's death is uncertain (he's dead until the developers say otherwise in my mind), but Henry's gone.

It plays into the themes of the story; for a while he has everything, but then his friend turns out to be a rat, his other friend gets killed, the whole of the Mafia want him dead, his sister won't speak to him, working for the mob meant he was in prison when his mother died, etc. etc.

I know I'm clutching at straws, but Henry was my (along with quite a bit of 2K's forums--the tards that they are) favorite character in the game. And since he has a following, I figure 2K might make a game about him, with the "He actually survived story"

I suppose it's not impossible, but I'd eat my own face if they pulled a stunt like that.

Did you ever play the first game? You were a bit fucked if you had a favourite character in it xD
