Short n sweet.
Story.
The way the story is presented is a little stupid as you have to eat people to gain memories because your character, Alex Mercer, has amnesia but basically you thought you were dead then you weren't dead and now you have powers that are so insanely strong that you probably never will die. So anyway the story is presented in 2 ways, through the main cutscenes which tells you where to go and who your killing and the cutscenes you get from consuming people is in realtime (as in you have to consume them in real time, the cutscenes make everyone magically stop nibbling away at your health) for most people you will be tempted to skip these cutscenes, and why not since you can review these cutscenes in the web of intrigue. This is a major problem because i've skipped atleast over half of these flashbacks and have never been compelled to give a rat's ass.
Gameplay
This game is like saints row when it comes to gameplay, it is FUN, plain and simple, as soon as I got into free roam I spent 4 hours doing nothing but running around being a prick until I realised "Wait, where the fuck are my powers?" Which is the only compelling reason to go through the story, to get the powers.
There are 9 powers ranging from combat, senses, defense and disguise and with each combat power (blade, hammerfist, musclemass, whip fist, claws) they have there own sort of playing style but they can be put into 3 categories, anti personnel, long range and anti vehicle and all of these can be upgraded in some way. All of these have some sort of balance except the whip fist which lets you jack helicopters which are plentiful thanks to the fact the military constantly patrol the infection which they're fighting and effectively losing to.
The infected, just think of them as zombies except they haven't died...yet, except for hunters, these bastards can take a giant chunk of your health if your button mashing and not paying attention, as you progress the story more parts of the city get infected, which is good, why kill people when you can kill infected, these guys are hopeless at attacking but still give some experience points.
Also you can consume people to regain health and take their identity which is great considering recharging health is pointless when your constantly being sprayed by bullets and tank missels (which only seem to tickle you.)
With the parkour aspect of the game you hold the right trigger to sprint and endlessly run up sky scrapers (xbox 360 configuration.) and you can jump, you can also charge up this jump since tapping the button is just pathetic, you can upgrade each of these to upgrade from fucking cool powers to god with a mutated blade for an arm. You also have an airdash which you can upgrade so you have 2 per jump and a glide power which makes you bleed from your wrists and feet for some very odd reason.
Replayability
This game has high replay value since you can keep all your upgrades after playthroughs, and at a price tag of $110 AUD, i cant afford not to.... But anyway this game is fun and you will want to play it again because nothing beats leap kicking someone into their nuts then using their corpse as a surfboard then flinging there corpse at another dipshit causing him to die. Except for the blade power, thats awesome.
It's a must rent/ borrow off your friend and never return.
You may have noticed that I haven't mentioned the graphics until now because quite frankly, graphics mean nothing, as long as the game runs smooth.
