i have a love/hate relationship with steam. i love it when it works, and i hate it when it doesnt work. and i know i posted this earlier, but i'm looking for some help getting it to work again so i can play some mount and blade: warband.

i have cable internet and some pretty good speed and as you can tell, im on the internet right now. but when i try to launch steam, it just shows a progress bar that never goes beyond 0% and about 5 minutes later tells me i cant connect to the internet (again, ignoring the fact that im browsing the web when it gives me this message).

i've gone to steams website and found some people with similar problems but no1 has any answers.

*** uninstalling and reinstalling didnt work ***

if you dont know how to help me, let me know where i can go to get help i.e. geek squad maybe or something.

The version of Steam that's on their website is horribly outdated. It's from before the UI update. My suggestion would be to use a pendrive and get Steam off a friend, that should work.

EDIT: Actually, try that second. Rename/delete ClientRegistry.blob from your Steam folder, that fixes most problems.

I've had huge problems with steam aswell.

log in problems, game data deleting all the time, multiple account problems.

It happens so frequently that I just can't be bothered with it anymore.

Deleting clientregistry.blob can fix a few steam connection issues, mostly I used it when getting connection errors connecting to servers. No idea if it would fix your problem but always worth a try.

For it to work properly you are supposed to exit Steam first, then delete it and then restart Steam. It'll ask you to log in and then create a new clientregistry.blob file.

steam wont start at all. it just has that progress bar telling me its updating but again it never updates. i cant even get into a login screen or any other screen other than that goddamn progress bar.

If it's trying to update then the program is running, if you hit ctrl, alt and delete and bring up task manager you should see Steam in running processes. Just select it, then hit end process and then do the delete clientregistry thing.

If that doesn't work (I suspect it won't) see if you can find a steam client from another source (not steam itself), making sure to uninstall before reinstalling with the client from somewhere else. It may be that something in the latest version disagrees with something about your system so an older version might work and update itself normally. Then again it might not.

I've found a few support pages that may be of some use:

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3352-RYON-4107
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5774-UXVB-5193

And if that doesn't work you can always submit a support ticket, that's their technical support. Make sure to include a clear explanation of the problem, your system specs including what version of windows (make sure you've updated it) or other OS you are using and the solutions you have tried to fix it.
