I'm pretty sure most, if not all, Escapists around here have, at some point, played a game where their character takes a certain amount of damage and becomes incapacitated. Then you need a friend to help heal or revive you. Now this is where things get interesting, as game developers have different systems to revive teammates:

-the shoulder tap (Gears of War),
-pick-me-up (Left 4 Dead)
-wait-to-respawn (Resistance: Fall of Man, Co-op)
-defibrillator pads (Battlefield 2)
-morphine syrette injections (Second Chance perk from Call of Duty: War)
- resurrection or Warlock soul stone (World of Warcraft)

So, what system do you think is the best (don't limit yourself to the games I mentioned; they're just well-known examples)? Or do you think you have a better revival system?

Personally, I like Battlefield's system better. Medpacks to heal, and starter pads (aka defibrillator pads) to revive.

Oh yeah, I completely forgot about those! Those things were dead handy against zombies too. I just wish I knew what the item actually looked like or was made of.

Maybe it's actually Phoenix down as in the 'down' taken from a phoenix? I'm pretty sure down is a fur like material that you can get in duvets. So the hair (or feathers or whatever) is the down part of a phoenix...maybe.

Wikipedia:

"The item is supposed to be the feather of a Phoenix, a common symbol of life and rebirth; "down" refers to the down feathers of a bird, the undercoat of feathers beneath the visible layer on top. Other representations of Phoenix Down include the bottled tears of a Phoenix, bolted quivers and bead necklaces. Variants of this item include the Phoenix Pinion and Mega Phoenix, which revive all party members."

The "Second Wind" system from Borderlands is pretty good.
How does that work? I can't find anything on it on the Borderlands wiki...

the pick-me-up from l4d, it requires allot of teamwork and thought trueness(?) in the heat of the battle, you need 2 people to do the work of 4 until the fallen is up again so you need to calculate if its worth the extra time and if your teammates can handle it, but its pretty broken in a random game.

Star Wars Republic Commando. - Only applies in single player campaign but you get NPC team mates.

You look down on your team mate (lying on the floor) and charge a futuristic defibrillator to revive them. It takes about a few seconds and if it's interrupted (just like in Left 4 Dead) you fail to revive them it has to be done again.
