Sorry about the title, but things like this:

http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/news/article43731.ece

really piss me off. I was reading probably the WORST newspaper in the world yesterday and I came across this story and it really made me sick, these people have a giant house that they can't afford to run, tons of fancy gadgets that they don't need and they are COMPLAINING about it! I've got a solution for them: Sell the house and get a smaller one, There!

I can't believe this quote: "Our house in Afganistan was huge compared to this one. We laugh at this house and would give this space to chickens to walk around in a cage."

They're not even working. These people don't deserve so much money.

I see the same thing with celebrities, all they spend their money on is gadgets, cars, houses that are huge but they don't need the space in them, drugs and other luxuries rather than the nessesities or maybe even starving, dying children in Africa.

Discuss.

Ah the news of the world, If it's not inciting hatred it's just being piss poor. Well yeah, the government gives too much out to some people. It's not exactly a common example, or it wouldn't be news.

It's true she has seven kids and she needs the money to look after them, but they're just spending the money on crap they don't need.

she shouldn't have had 7 kids if she can't afford to take care of them...why is it that everyone feels that you can go screw up as much as you want and someone else will just give you money so everything's ok? I think that's bull

I have an idea, send the dishonest bint home.

Anyway, racist bile out of the way, she is clearly taking the piss. A family with six kids live just down the street from me and they certainly don't get 14k a month. They get by just fine too. It could be argued that she is bringing something to the country in the form of seven souls who will grow up in a western society and eventually add to the economy (assuming it still exists in ten years or so...it will).
But to be blunt I think she is well and truly off her trolly, complaining that she can't get by when there's fifty inch TV screens and the latest consoles lying around as she lives in a £1.2million house.

Guessing by their ages and the dates in the article, they were all born in Afghanistan under the Taleban's rule. I highly doubt she had much choice as to whether she wanted kids or not.

I think the father was an escapee from Afghanistan and he took asylum in Britan, but that's not an excuse to act like a money grabbing shyster.

I think if people have money, then beyond theft, there's very little we can do about it. The world isn't fair, as it has taught me repeatedly, so just accept that and try to make it as unfair for others as it is for you.

to be honest, I think if someone is more intelligent, lucky, or harder working than everyone else and they make a lot of money, they are entitled to do whatever they bloody well want with it.

It's not their fault they have all that money, it's the fault of the people that keep giving it to them. Although I will admit they have no real reason to complain about not having enough money to go to Disney Land. I mean, I've never been, and I'm none the worse for it.

As long as it's not complaining about it anyway.

I'm pretty sure I've said this in another thread, but I decided long ago that if I ever obtained an obscene amount of money, I would buy a cottage in Scotland, then buy a faithful old Border Collie with arthritis, and live there in peace for the rest of my days, giving all the extra money that I wouldn't need for food and all that away to various charities.

That's the point though, these people haven't done anything to deserve it, they don't work and they're ungrateful for what they have, the only thing they've done is have too many kids and came from a bad country (they were rich there too though).

Awww that's sweet ^_^
I'd just buy a good sized house with a nice garden by the river, a kayak and a couple of other things I want and I'd pretty much be fine, I wouldn't spend it on useless crap like giant houses or cars.

It IS their fault for spending it on ridiculous luxuries rather than food or electric though.

The only thing in this article that doesn't describe most of my rich American neighborhood (families with enormous houses, fabulous electronics, and piles of credit-card debt) is that the government is paying their overpriced rent. This is really the fault of the office who kept moving the family up to better and better houses, probably following some outdated computer program and not bothering to check up on it.

Okay, are we asking should they have been allowed in the country? I don't think anyone here is claiming that they definitely shouldn't. So should the government have to house them? Well, since as asylum seekers they're not allowed to work, I'd say that we pretty much have to.

Should we, as taxpayers, be paying £12,500 a month for a house for them all to live in? Of course not. Whoever made that decision should be sacked. And they were, three of them.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1072729/Council-workers-sacked-jobless-Afghan-mother-seven-got-1-2million-council-house.html

Now here they claim that they were only doing their job. Now I don't know what the job description for an Ealing Council housing officer is, but if they're expected to show any sort of initiative or independent thought, they should at least have pointed out the craziness of the situation, which they admit, to a superior. If, however, a housing officer is a minimum wage paperwork machine, who is merely expected to apply a set of functions to a given set of criteria, then whoever is responsible for defining the criteria and the functions should be sacked. In any case, it isn't the fault of the inhabitants of the house.

So, is the money provided for this family outside of their housing costs over the top? £333 to pay for 8 people for a week? That's £41.63 a week each. In London. I say that £41.63 is pretty reasonable.

Right, so are they spending it irresponsibly? Maybe, but so long as the amount we're subsidising them by is reasonable, I really couldn't give a toss.

As far as I can see, the only possible reason to have a quarrel with these people is that the possessions that they have amassed do seem to rather exceed that which should be possible on that income, which might imply that they've been earning money on the side, which might on one hand seem understandable given that they're living on an average of £41.63 each a week, but would rather show a lack of respect to the Government that was paying their £12,500 rent.

But this article only sneeringly hints at that, and provides no solid evidence that this has happened, preferring to arrange their words amongst irrelevances in whatever configuration will get their fuming readers to the end of their rage-wank quickest.

In a capitalistic society, you earn money, it's yours, you spend it however you like. What's so hard to understand?
