If you've ever noticed everything on this earth, be it TV, Movies, Video Games and even books can only follow these two broad plot lines.

STRANGER COMES TO TOWN

SOMEBODY GOES ON A TRIP

I challenge anyone to find proof that breaks this system. If you do, produce something that is valid evidence (Don't make it up)

You mean they either go to the plot or the plot goes to them? Yeah, that's kind of obvious.

Cooking shows; Rachel Ray does not trifle with your standard plot lines.

I mean something with actual PLOT. Cooking shows don't count (with the possible exception of No Reservations and Bizzare Foods)

I don't think anyone goes or comes in Desperate Housewives, although I don't watch the show, so I'm not sure. Same with Six Feet Under.

Not sure about the going, but in DH there is MORE then enough.... ya know what? too easy.

Anyways, it is an interesting point you make. Although seeing as how easy it is to amuse me, I can't say it bothers me very much.

Any RTS. They all follow starcraft's three race theme. (I dont care if they were first or not because they were the best)

Heres another one- "And now for something complety diffrent"

Pornos...they could fall under 'Stanger comes to Town,' but it depends on the individual "plot" of the porno.

I like that quote too (I'm referring to "There are two kinds of stories..."). I wonder who originally said that?

Well I guess this depends on what you mean by trip?

I mean, if at any given point the main protagonist pops to the shop the story conforms to those rules? Does that mean he can go on an adventure safely?

It is true that there are technically only around about 7 stories, but what you've said is like saying all plots are either fictional or not fictional.

What about if they are already on their trip? What if they were already going to the shops before the film started? The problem is your statements are too sweeping. People could go on a trip in the storyline, but it might not be the main part of the storyline.

Besides, someone could come to town and someone could leave, that's a third there.

The film Clerks is pretty much all filmed in either a newsagent or a video store, which are next to each other, with a trip to a funeral for 5 minutes. In reality I'd say no strangers come to town and no one goes away on a trip or an adventure in that film.
