I would like to know what game people think has the most ridiculius difficulty curve of any game they have ever played.

For me, the Final Fantasy games were always a killer.

Jagged Alliance 2. I've never had a game go from forgiving to merciless quite so abruptly. By the last few missions I was reloading 10-15 times per turn and making micro adjustments to every merc so I didn't lose half my squad in a single round of fire.

It's going to be silly I know, but my first play through of Tales of Symphonia I was not nearly strong enough to take on Magnus. So I I just hit a wall. next play through I did just fine

Recently, Dragon Age and Demon's Souls were pretty difficult (I didn't play Demon's Souls on hard).
In terms of learning curve though, I'd have to say MAG. Mostly because the game does nothing to help you learn. Either someone teaches you, or you need to do it through trial-and-error.
EDIT: Not exactly the game's fault, but SMBW is the hardest multiplayer game released in 2009.

Morrowind, because my older brother was evil. This was back when i was first getting into games, and i had just started to get into Morrowind.

My brother went ahead and put the difficulty to full without me knowing. It became the hardest game in the history of ever... Mudcrabs where a threat for gods sake :(

For a game which didn't involve evil older brothers, I'd likely go ahead and say Ninja Gaiden, i found that hard. Or perhaps The sims, i say this because of the immense difficulty of trying to stop myself from killing my residents every couple of minutes, I failed to stop myself every single time.

No one's mentioned it yet? Seriously?

The Water Temple from OoT. Everything's a breeze for the entire game, and then BAM! Lowering/raising water levels, going all the way to the clothing menu to change into your iron boots, and worst of all, being able to get yourself stuck forever if you do things wrong with absolutely no warning that such a thing was even possible.

Still haven't beaten it.

That slums level in Jak 2.

Many controllers were broken.
The embedding desn't work, but I know how you feel. I finally beat that stage by hoverboarding through the enemies like a crazed maniac.

Funny thing, I'm just playing Mass Effect 2 on Insanity... With a sniper class. I don't think it's appropriate to speak of a curve when you reach parts with a lot of melee enemies... Running against a brick wall is more descriptive.

Apparently, spelling ridiculous is difficult. Even spelling it wrong the same way twice is beyond some...

Anywho...Ninja Gaiden on the hardest setting.

It's spelled "redonkulous." Get it right next time.

That said...<url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.151706-Lightning-Warrior-Raidy-a-Lordlee-and-Neutral-Drow-review>Lightning Warrior Raidy.

1st level: "Hm. This isn't too bad."
2nd level: "Ow...okay, avoid that enemy, fight everything else."
3rd level: "OH SWEET JEEBUS THE PAIN!"
4th level: "Okay, avoid those two monsters, fight the other one."
5th level: "Huh. This isn't bad at all."
6th level: "WHY, WHY AM I CONDEMNED TO A LIFE OF PURE AGONY?!"
Final Boss: "Heh. Pansy."

Curve? Demon's Souls. Because it has none. As soon as you are done shaking hands, it starts kicking your ass.

STALKER has a ridiculous difficulty curve for first time players. It's like no other FPS out there and the standerd FPS tactics don't work. Spray n' Pray and your toast...in fact, every time you miss, you come closer to getting spread across the Zone like a cheap paste.

Vampires and Mind Flayers in Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn are two of the most obnoxiously over-the-top ridiculously ludicrous enemies you will ever fight in a game.

Vampires level drain with each hit, and a swarm of them can reduce that fancy level 15 warrior to a lvl 1 punk within seconds. Even worse with mages as they loose all their spells and you have to manually re-memorize each and every spell they lost after the battle is over. Same with cleric.

And Mind Flayers ***EAT YOUR BRAINS!***

Enough said.

I grew up on Megaman (the originals). My friends and I traded off after every time we lost. The goal was not to beat the game, not even to beat the boss, but rather to get his life bar lower than your personal best.

Also, Ninja Gaiden 2 for the 360. Two Armadillo bosses that instakill explode when killed (you're only allowed to carry one revive). If I hadn't have gotten the game for such a great price it would have been returned the second those came up.

You would be the first I have ever heard of to be honest, I can't remember ever having real trouble in any j-rpg to be honest. Was there a game/moment in particular?

My pick would either be Left for Dead with expert being almost impossible to pass the final part of any campaign or Death Trap Dungeon for the ps1.
