RIDICULOUS difficulty

Shadow of Rome. When you get around the mid-point, the game jumps from fairly challenging to murderously difficult and at one point asks you to clear a room full of (infinitely? I've never survived long enough to check) respawning enemies, all of which can have a spike shield and a sling, to a torch and a dagger, to halberds and can spawn smaller enemies and bigger enemies, the latter of which are thrice your size and can take four times the punishment.

By the time those enemies spawn in, you'll be able to appeal to the crowd to get a weapon (usually a halberd or a spear, if your're lucky it'll be a Grand Magnus) that's bigger than the player character. As soon as the weapon lands in the arena and you can pick it up, someone who previously didn't exist will stun you or knock you over or something, then themselves or another enemy will pick up your hard-earned bus-sized sword and proceed to rape you.

Even if you manage to get the weapon, any attack that hits you can make you drop your right-hand weapon. All of the weapons you can get by appealing to the crowd take two hands to hold.

Oh, and did I mention that you have to kill certain enemies in that room to rescue four hostages from wooden cages, and if anyone attacks them, the hostage takes damage? Yeah. I almost ate my controller.

I Wanna Be the Guy. Apparently it's hard. Hardest game I ever played was probably on the NES.

Darksiders has a pretty weird difficulty curve has mentionned by Yathzee in his review... the first boss is by far the hardest one, than everything else is just cake.

DA:O is very difficult, but I enjoy it most of the time. The basic difficulty for games sure has come down huge leaps from, let's say, Amiga times.

Apparently, spelling ridiculous is difficult. Even spelling it wrong the same way twice is beyond some...

Anywho...Ninja Gaiden on the hardest setting.
Anyone who even attempts that should have already known what they were getting into. People still can't beat the first few bosses on Normal. I know a guy who is forever stuck on stage 2 of NG1. Yeah.....

No one's mentioned it yet? Seriously?

The Water Temple from OoT. Everything's a breeze for the entire game, and then BAM! Lowering/raising water levels, going all the way to the clothing menu to change into your iron boots, and worst of all, being able to get yourself stuck forever if you do things wrong with absolutely no warning that such a thing was even possible.

Still haven't beaten it.
Yeah, the Water Temple took me longer to finish than any other dungeon, but it's not impossible. If you don't mind online strategy guides, I suggest you use one. I did, and still had problems. I don't even want to think about how insane I would have gone had I not used a strategy guide.

Seriously though, no matter how much the Water Temple frustrates you, it's definitely worth finishing. Ocarina of Time is an EPIC game, and my favorite Zelda game of all time. Trust me, it doesn't get harder after the Water Temple. After you finish it, the rest of the game should be a relief. It's still challenging, but not frustrating.

All that comes to my mind right now is the difference between Hardened and Veteran difficulty on CoD4. Alot of missions weren't too hard on any difficulty, but missions like One Shot, One Kill, and Mile High Club... I beat them within my first 5 tries on Hardened. Veteran, took me ages to beat Mile High Club, and 1S1K, wouldn't have beaten it if it weren't for the crazy glitch that happened.

For some reason, I've always found Final Fantasy and Silent Hill to be difficult for me. I absolutely love both series for their stories and characters but I have yet to actually finish one for myself. >.>;

Obviously as said before, Ninja Gaiden 2. Unlocked the 3rd difficulty, never have seen the hardest.
Also Kingdom Under Fire Heroes, that single player game was...impossible.

For me, and I might just be an RTS noob (very likely), the Kingdom under Fire games. Especially the second one. For the second one, I could get through like the first one or two levels on most of the characters' campaigns, but on the easiest character I got to about level four or something. I was is a gigantic cave and kept getting trapped in gigantic ice storms of death that my enemies kept throwing at me. I beat the two "easy" campaigns on the original, though, but on one of the other ones I just got stuck and couldn't ever move past it.

Granted, this was about five years ago.

Left 4 Dead 2... Expert was easy for me in Left 4 Dead, but when the second one came around, I just straight up couldn't do it. But I'm stubborn and I will not play on anything but Expert even if I get destroyed at it.

I think i broke about 6 x box controllers playing one level in Mass Effect 2 on insanity. I looked it up and saw that i brought the wrong weapon haha. I eventually finished that fucking level and beat the game on insanity and got the achievement and yes it was worth the 6 controllers.

For the record, it was the disabled collector ship where your on those floating platforms getting constantly barraged by Harbingers and flanked by collectors left and right with that cheep black spell by the harbinger that knocks you down ready for fire and blind sighting issues! And how that scion is following you around dropping your shields in one hit!!!!!! And once you kill THAT ONE ANOTHER POPS UP and he keeps dropping your shields YEARGGGHHHHHH!!!!!

Apologies......

The water temple isn't hard just tedious because of the menu. I still don't believe that you can get stuck.
Oh ya you can, use those keys up on the wrong doors and your toast

I don't know why, but in Super Mario RPG, all is fine till I get to sea side town and have to fight in the ship... Can never pass it no matter how many times I restart the game.
