When I first heard about the prequel to the timeless classic Alien I wasn't that excited.
The franchise had basically bled out since Aliens and become a shadow of it's former self.
But just now I read that none other than the original Alien-director Ridley Scott is going to take the reigns for this movie. This gives me a maior boost of confidence. After all, it was Ridley Scott that made Alien the succes it was by merging 2001: a Space Odyssey, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Do you think Ridley Scott can get this franchise back on it's feet?

Well at least they aren't leaving it up to that blithering idiot that made Alien Ressurection. It's good to know Scott's going to be doing this one.

The one thing I wonder is if they are going to try and build the movie around the Alien universe, or the Alien vs. Predator universe.

Don't know to to feel about this. I'm going to say bad as it's alien without Ripley (again) maybe it would be better to leave Alien as it is.

To be precise, it was the first contact for as far as they knew, doesn't mean other humans haven't been killed before, it just means noone got away to tell anyone

I think they might try to elaborate on the derelict spacecraft wich housed the eggs in the first movie. Aswell as the fosillized alien-pilot that send the warning signal.

I really enjoy Scott's work (except bladerunner) so I'm hoping this will shine among today's bland movie titles. But..

How can there be a prequel when the first Alien movie was the first contact?

I really, really hope they have some damn good writers.
They might do it so that no body survives the real first contact which would be the only way I can think of, but then again when I think about weren't they sent there to bring back an alien against there knowledge so i am guessing somebody knew about it

The alien films grew only worse and worse. You should leave a good franchise alone and not turn into a George Lucas. To summarise the Alien Quadrilogy: Super Smashing Shit Bollocks.
Which is a shame since I loved the first one so much and hate to see the series get so ruined.

Maybe it wont feature humans at all. It could be solely about the space jockey and his race and there confrontation with the Alien. And how they inevitably lost.

Yes, someone at "the Company" definitely knew about the alien before the Nostromo was sent there. The android seemed to know quite a bit about it and had specific instructions to violate quarantine protocols in order to get one on board.

I suppose thats a possibility but didn't the android that was aboard the ship know about the alien?

As long as I get to figure out what the FUCK Space Jockey's were, I'm in.
I'm thinking that'll be their solution to the 'Alien was first contact' issue.

As long as the whole movie doesn't boil down to 'And this is how it happened', I'll be happy.

Maybe "the Company" only knew about the alien-signal. And that's why Ash joined the crew a few weeks before departure as a science officer. So that he could personly supervice the investigation.

this might be interesting especially since Ridley is returning to the helm. the last couple movies in the aliens franchise haven't been that good

Funny that this thread pops up the morning after I begin a re-readthrough of the Aliens novels...

According to the novels, there were two nearly-simultaneous outbreaks of the Xenos. LV-426, AKA the planet from Alien and Aliens, and a planet called Rim. While I doubt it, they could be going with Rim. The space jockey is far more likely.

Also, why in the fuck don't they just make a movie series based on the novels?!
The novels, unlike the AvP movies or Alien Resurrection, actually kept the essence of the first two movies perfectly. In fact, much of the first three novels is what Alien 3 was supposed to be (canceled due to the cost of CGI at the time), namely, the outbreak on earth. The best part was, the Aliens novels stayed purely Aliens, the Predator novels stayed purely Predator, and only the AvP novels crossed over, but both series' didn't do anything to counter/inhibit the crossover either. It was perfect.
The whole Aliens vs. Predator was the worst thing that happend to both franchises.

I heard a rumor that the chick from Roseanne( name escapes me ) was supposed to play Ripley in another Aliens film. Not this film because this one seems like some actual thought will go into it.
