The Horrible Theme from Dr. Horrible works pretty well. It's short, gets right to the point, and you hear the whole thing in about the space of a ring. I considered the Bad Horse chorus for the same reason.

I've always used songs for my ringtones. I do however, try to go for parts of songs that are at least kind of jangly/ringy to sort of make me even want to answer it.

I love cutting bits out of the Initial D soundtracks songs, that eurobeat stuff always got my blood pumping watching the anime or playing the arcade game, so it sits well with me, much to the detriment of other people. Nowadays, I'm using parts of the songs from the dubstep gun in Saints Row 4, because obviously they were *meant* to be fired in short bursts (or until people burst).

Nothing much other than that. I don't put effort in assigning ringtones and pictures for each of my friends, coz fuck that. My buddies have put some pretty hilarious songs and pics of me though....

I don't change the alarm clock because the built-in ones are always suitably annoying enough to get my tired ass out of bed.

I use
<youtube=otQtYgw_0NY>
right now, but I might change it soon as I've used it a while. I like it when I hear a phone rings and I don't have to wonder if it's mine or not.

I just use the stock ringtone that it was already set to when I got it. It might be a bit lame, but it works.

I use a bootleg recording version of this song:
How? I recorded the song using my phone's recorder and then selected that recording as my ringtone...

Other than that, I did hear someone's phone use this song as a ringtone:
I tried my best not to laugh when I heard it, thus giving away my position adjacent to where the phone was at the time... :p

I have a habit of continually changing things like this...ringtones, avatars, armor on my XCOM troops, you name it.

But the longest song I've used for a ringtone would be -

From about 00:14 on. I just adore the sound of that (likely synth) guitar.

Currently, however, I'm rocking me some Celldweller -

Starting at about 1:04. Because I enjoy that particular segment of lyrics.

A start.
An End.
A rise and fall.
No system eternal.
And no one immortal.
Creation;
All.
Must end.
In destruction.
We cannot change the fate of civilization.

I was going to cosplay as Gendou Ikari for Comic Con one year. I ultimately chickened out, since his outfit was more complicated than I'd realized, but I decided to keep the ringtone.

As soon as I figure out how to chop up samples of mp3s, I'm planning to switch to the chorus of the Dragonforce cover of "Ring of Fire", though.

Currently I've got the Steven Universe ringtone as my ringtone (the one he has on his phone). To be honest, I receive maybe a handful of calls a week, so I don't hear it much.

My message tone is the Zelda Compass tone (sound that plays when you enter a room with a secret), and my other message tone is the
Undertale "heart destroyed" sound.

So yeah, my phone makes a "brrring brrring" sounds when someone rings me.
Hey, my mom does that, too! How retro! :p

For some reason that I would find difficult to describe I detest the idea of using a song for a ringtone. It's just a noise to get my attention. I don't really need to be serenaded by a song, or rather the first five seconds of a song before I shut it off to answer the damn phone.
I prefer to know it's my phone ringing. And I doubt even the band I use uses this as a ringtone. So, OT for a moment:

I'm only in danger if someone has a "Smells Like Teen Spirit" ringtone. >.>

I also use custom ringtones for individual frequent contacts. This allows me to easily tell who is calling me. I could do this with individual tones, but it's just easier to cut a song at maximum loudness.

I have the 2008 Doctor Who theme song.

It's really distinct and easy to hear regardless of where I am which is why I like it so much.
Ironically, I would probably use this, except other people around me do, and it would defeat my whole reason for using a custom song.

I've only ever had 1 musical ringtone, a mate of mine programmed it into my old 3210. It was the main chorus melody to this.

E's are good, E's are good...er, I mean 'eezer Goode, 'eezer Goode, 'e's Ebeneezer Goode.

For calls I use the LRR part of this (the bit that isn't "Take Me Out To The Ball Game".

For texts, it's a sound clip of Joker (Mass Effect) saying "Message coming in. Patching it through"

I don't have a ringtone.

I am actually very surprised that people do still use ringtones as my phone is always on vibrate so I've never had any need or desire to put a ringtone onto it. Am....am I the weird one? No....I'm normal. I'm super normal! Don't let them bring you down tippy2k2! It's perfectly normal to not have a ringtone and to speak to yourself in this manner. Perfectly normal!

Anyway, I used to use this until I got complaints:

So since then I've kinda been floating between this:

and Return of the Mack.

Though I will also freely admit to using this for a couple weeks just to bother a friend. [https://soundcloud.com/triplekyu/senpaigoneloveit]

I used to use the System Shock elevator musak:

Now I use Zoe's ringtone from Dreamfall Chapters. Can't find a YouTube clip of it, but it's basically this but slower and less tinny:

I use one of the default jingles. It's something meant to emulate classical music that I'm pretty sure was actually composed in my lifetime.

I had the Goodbye Moonmen song from Rick and Morty for awhile, but now I got a techno remix of Walk the Dinosaur. The worst one I heard was in the middle of speech class, some dude's phone started playing a Limp Bizkit song, the "Rollin" one I think. Guest speaker was not amused.

Back when I used to have a ringtone and not have everything set to silent permanently, I used this sinister piece to better mirror my anxiety surrounding actually picking up a ringing phone:

Not that I've actually ever had to answer my own phone. I don't think I've ever been called by anyone that wasn't a random cold-caller trying to peddle something to do with PPI (which I only know because I google the number to see if there are people complaining about it).

I used to use songs as ringtones back when it was a new thing. But I don't actually like talking on the phone so I'd end up having a negative association with my ringtone song. Now I just go with whatever crappy stock ringtones are available.

Message/notification tones on the other hand I love playing around with. Usually I go with a videogame sound effect. Currently I've got the SMS notification sound from Life is Strange.
