From the AP - Maurice Sendak, the author who introduced millions of children worldwide to mischievous Max and his monsters in "Where The Wild Things Are," died Tuesday, his publisher said. He was 83.

"I refuse to lie to children," he said in an interview with the Guardian last year. "I refuse to cater to the bullshit of innocence."

Let's lift a glass in toast to the guy who knew that for kids, emotions get too big for words. Give 'Where The Wild Things Are' a read and watch how the pictures get bigger and bigger as the words on the page get fewer and fewer. If ever there was a guy who knew what kids were about, it was he.

Sendak's Legacy : Helping Kids 'Survive Childhood' is a nice read, too : http://www.npr.org/2012/05/08/152250644/sendaks-legacy-helping-kids-survive-childhood

"I refuse to cater to the bullshit of innocence."

I demand that caption be applied to his portrait all across the internet.

I cannot describe in words how much I loved Where the Wild Things Are as a child.

I'm going to roar my terrible roar and gnash my terrible teeth and roll my terrible eyes and show my terrible claws in memory of Sendak.

Although I know he was an atheist, I hope Sendak finds himself in the night of his very own room and finds his supper waiting for him...and that it is still warm.

"...and that it is still hot." What you wrote was great, but I have to call you on the slip. Sendak actually had to fight the initial publishers from changing hot to warm. Second to last paragraph here : http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2009/oct/20/maurice-sendak-wild-things-hell
