On July 31st, Michael Ansara, a Syrian-born American actor, died. For those who don?t know, he played a great many roles in his time, but for me, he was most notable for providing the voice of Mr Freeze in the acclaimed Batman Animated series in the 90?s.

I bring this up because not only was Batman one of my favourite shows growing up, but because the character of Mr Freeze was easily one of the more interesting antagonists they created, giving him a more tragic and dignified portrayal than any he?s been given before or since. And Michael provided a very well-done performance, giving Freeze that edge that?s never been matched in my opinion. His feature episode, "Heart of ice", is something I still watch frequently to this day.

I don?t know how exactly he passed away, but I?m sure that myself and other fans will send our regards to his family, and hope they get through this loss.

And as for Mr Ansara, I hope that, wherever he is right now, I hope that he, as his character once said, is waiting ?someplace where a warm hand waits for his?.

He had a fantastically haunting voice that fit very well with the 50's noir setting of the cartoon.

I'd always imagine if they were to make a live-action Batman with Mr. Freeze they'd cast Christopher Lloyd, because Ansara's performance always reminded me of Lloyd's performance in Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Best voice in the whole show. Sorry, Hamill.

To Sto'Vo'Kor goes Dahar Master Kang. What a shame, He was a fine actor, and his role in Star Trek as Kang was present in some of my most favorite episodes of the series as a whole.

Yeah. Um...they did do a live action Batman with Mr. Freeze. It wasn't terribly well regarded.

OTOH, though, they went with the new reinterpretation of the character from the animated show.

Hey, highlight reel of the episode for people who haven't seen it, go

I thought he was already dead for some reason... I guess that's another voice actor, or maybe I was thinking Christopher Reeve

It's a shame. While Kor was my favorite Klingon, Kang was still a great baddie. His appearances on DS9 and Voyager were highlights for me.

Inna Illah he Innah Ilaihe Rajion

It's sad you don't know his much better performance, he was Abu Suffian(Prophet Muhammad Sallah-o-Ilaihe-Wassalam's uncle who opposed him until the conquest of Mecca) in The Message: The Story of Islam. In movie terms that role would still qualify as a villain however.

sad to read this. I will always remember him as Quarlo, the future soldier time warped back to the early 1960s in the Harlan Ellison penned Outer Limits episode 'Soldier'. (which became the basis of Cameron's 'the Terminator')

At first, I didn't know who this guy was, until I looked at the OP. And now I feel kind of depressed...

My condolences to his family.
