I fully agree with you. Regardless of how "nice" a guy he may have been, he was a fool that quite frankly asked for something like this to happen. I had an Uncle that smoked and drank his life away to a heart attack in his early-60s. I wasn't sad, I was ashamed of him. He let all of his amazing natural talent go to waste instead of getting help for it. He was weak-willed and denied aid from the family... I never shed a single tear for him, I was more pissed that he didn't use his gifts to make a productive living.

This difference with Dunn, regardless that I didn't know him personally, is that he didn't utilize any talents for success. He simply had the physical fortitude to withstand doing idiotic shit to himself in front of a camera and some dickpump at MTV decided it was worth paying him for it. It's like the Court Jester making more money than the King, or for a more modern analogy, Pro-Athletes earning more to PLAY A GAME than the President makes to RUN THE COUNTRY.

So Dunn bites the big one by supposedly being the intoxicated driver in the accident and being an accessory to the deaths of his passenger(s). People want to call it a tragedy, I call it weeding out the weak.

No, Ryan didn't deserve to die, and the other person who died in the accident who may well not have been drinking didn't deserve to die either. Honestly though, if someone from Jersey Shore died I don't think there'd be memorial threads on the Escapist, and to me the only difference is the type of bodily fluids the "stars" like to bathe in. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe this person made a difference in the lives of others when he wasn't helping his friend destroy his parents' house and covering himself in human excrement. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with admiration for (not to be confused with worship of) celebrities, but what about celebs who didn't do anything to be celebrities? Robert Downey Jr., Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), Tim Armstrong (Rancid) and a great many other artists and actors have battled addiction, and they've stopped before they killed themselves or someone else and channeled their struggles with their demons into great art that has inspired others, especially others who sometimes feel alone when they are fighting their own demons. Hell, even Jason Mewes quit smoking pot in the last year. There may not be a single addict in the cast of Jersey Shore (but I doubt it), but the show itself is a celebration of insipidity, materialism, trashiness and bad decisions. In this respect Jersey Shore is definitely worse in my view than Jackass, but it's the same intellectual realm, the empty one. Jackass is nothing more than the celebration of the guys who lived in your dorm in college who would eat dog feces for a dollar. I cared so much more when an elderly indigent drunkard finally succumbed to liver failure.

It can go both ways but i haven't made a judgment on him, it's just sad that he died. It is reality that famous people die and get attention for it, but there should be some respect for the loss of life. For me, Dunn was apart of something i grew up watching, and for that i'm sorry he died. A lot of people on here feel the same.

Yes people do, if you drive while drunk and risk other peoples lives, you deserve to die imo.

bursting in to flames is not an acceptable death, in America people of death row get a better death. Yes it was stupid and dangerous, but i don't think i can judge someone like that, let alone enough to wish that on anybody.

They earned a lot of money or doing that "stupid and unproductive stuff" for the entertainment of others, obviously others like it enough to make them that famous

I dont care how people on deathrow die, I dont care if its considered better, he drank, he drove aft drinking, he crashed, he deserved it or risking other peoples lives. Want my sympathy after a car accident, dont drink and drive.

So what ? Footballers get millions to play a chidrens game, its not productive. Just becuase they made alot of money dosentmake them productive, it just means lots of people have more money than sense. Its like saying people on big brother re productive becuase they win money I assume.

I don't think what he did was right, but to be so cold to the death of a fellow human, especially in such a way is pretty cold. I thought this thread was to mourn Ryan Dunn, not criticize him.

I'm going to break Godwin's law (for poops and giggles) and say that making a thread titled 'Great things the Nazis did' and stating that people are only allowed to post good things about them, is both both naive and futile.

I never once said you could or could not post, i was asking why you felt the need to write something like this on something such as a RIP page. I don't pretend to know who is was or what he was like, but who the hell made you judge and jury by pigeon-holing what he did?

I just think it's naive to post a RIP page on the internet, home of scum and villiany that it is. There are plenty of misanthropes populating this website who (rightly) believe that a person who has wasted his life doing stupid things, has died doing something stupid, deserves slightly less sympathy than someone who hasn't. It's not a nice thing, but that's reality.

There is a big difference between being misanthropic (uncaring or hatred of something)and being indifferent. you wouldn't walk in to a memorial service and becry someone and say that you have every right to do it because your a tax payer. There is a level of human moderation that yes, does not get reinforced on the internet.

you have every right to post here, but why not filter it through moderation in respect of the lose of human life? Just because you can does not mean you should.

I don't wish ill on others, but at the same time, I don't really care for people who have shown time and time again that they don't particularly care about their own safety. I like to think of it as Darwinism at work.

Is it sad for the people who knew him? Of course it is, but by your logic, I shouldn't judge people without knowing them. That also counts in the opposite direction. I only knew the man for his display of random stupidity.

It can go both ways but i haven't made a judgment on him, it's just sad that he died. It is reality that famous people die and get attention for it, but there should be some respect for the loss of life. For me, Dunn was apart of something i grew up watching, and for that i'm sorry he died. A lot of people on here feel the same.

Of course you do, and you have every right to be sad. That doesn't mean people who thought he was irresponsible shouldn't be called 'heartless' for voicing their opinion, in what is a drunk driving incident.

Stupid people will be mourned when they kill themselves through recklessness. It doesn't make them any less deplorable though.

If you can't give one ounce of sympathy for his death, how about something for his friends and family? Or maybe some sympathy for the reasons why he did what he did (although nothing has been released yet.)

If you don't care, why bother posting? If you're best friend, family member, etc. died in this way, would you be happy to see people posting "He was stupid and deserved it." all over the internet?

I shouldn't be surprised though. The intellectual capacity needed to actually think about why he was doing what he did that night is usually pretty lacking on this forum and in the general public. Otherwise you might have been able to at least theorize the possibility that he was living the life that was expected of him. If you gained millions of dollars and celebrity status by partying, drinking, and doing crazy stunts, you're going to be expected to do the same when you're in public. You know how many free drinks he probably gets in bars? Probably every single one, especially in his home town. I'm not excusing what he did, but to just be so black and white with whether or not someone was good or bad is an extremely simplistic and ignorant way to look at things.

Every single person out there will do something stupid and dangerous during their life. Some more than others, but that does not mean that you deserve to die because of it. Or that you should be scolded posthumously for it. If you honestly think that you've never done something wrong that could have caused serious harm than you're either bed-ridden, or were completely oblivious to your mistake.


Let me know when your uncle, sister, etc. dies from cancer. I'd like to be there to ridicule them for smoking, or talking on their cell phone too much, or eating terribly, or not going to the doctor earlier enough.

Really sad to hear he died, was always one of my favourites in Jackass. Disappointed it had to be drink driving though. Being drunk should be illegal in my opinion. (punishable by a fine or something)
