Well I'm about to spend 15-20 hours straight in a car and I figure this would be a good opportunity to pick up some new music. Unfortunately, I'm completely drawing a blank as to what to get so I'm crowd sourcing ideas from you lot. Any suggestions are welcome, no restrictions on style/genre but it should be good music to drive to, bonus points if it's weird or obscure because I am a hipster deserving of your ire.

Thanks er'ybody

Obscure? Okay.

Marillion - Clutching at Straws. Dark, soft rock, 80s

Cherry Ghost - Thirst for Romance. Folk Rock. My go to drinking and driving album. Not at the same time.

Stereophonics - You Gotta go There to Come Back. You'll see what I mean when you play it.

Protomen - Act II: The Father of Death. Story/concept album. Rock/8bit. Try and keep under 80mph when listening to The Hounds.

Last one:

30 Seconds to Mars - A Beautiful Lie. For when it gets dark.

EDIT: Oh, and Echoes/Silence/Patience/Grace - Foos. Self-explanatory. Or it was to me, at least.

I can say with confidence ABBA is my families go to music for a road trip to Las Vegas, no trip there could be complete without hearing some ABBA songs. Especially the one that sounds like it's about Vegas, although I forget the name.

Listen to Slayer, then it'll be a ten hour road trip.

I find Demon Days by Gorillaz is a great album to listen to on road trips, other than the really obvious stuff like AC/DC and Motorhead.

Oh, nothing better than Modest Mouse, for something like this... especially This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About...

I always listen to this (in my head) whenever I'm travelling. I've been doing this since Sideways came out in 2006, though as far as I remember the song doesn't show up in the movie, just in the trailer.

Stunt by the Barenaked Ladies. Fantastic and fun album. Other than that, I don't really have many recommendations. Maybe Machine Head by Deep Purple?

Soundgarden
They are pretty much my favorite "normal" band

Mintjam
They are my favorite band, if you don't mind instrumental(mostly) music, you're(most likely) going to like them
Their song "A Rude Performance" is one of my favorite songs ever, and they made me enjoy music i normally don't like(J-anything) with a few of their songs(mainly Shell Breaker)

And finally, while it isn't actually a band, anything by Daisuke Ishiwatari, he does the soundtracks for Arc System Work's games(Guilty Gear, Blazblue, Hard Corps Uprising), and before i got into fighting games, i bought their games for the soundtrack
If Ishiwatari was a band, he would be my favorite band ever
I remember i once heard someone in the Dustloop forums saying that they would listen to anything made by Daisuke, even if it was just a recording of him taking a crap, because Ishiwatari craps gold

I feel like this song would be quite fitting.
I should go find a 10 hour version...

Anything by DJ Tiesto. His majik series is great driving music. I would say I love nonstop trance megamixes. They are great because they run from beginning to end, and the music allows you to forget about the world and use your imagination.

Edit: I have this little cd I found 13 years ago called "Spiritual Vibes". It's a progressive trance cd that I would absolutely listen to for a good road trip. I so love it!!

Funny you should say that because it's pretty much how I made it up here in the first place :p that and some Racer X, Tyr and Iron Maiden.

I am digging what I'm listening to so far though, there's a good variety and a few tunes I haven't heard in ages. Thank you all kindly and of course more suggestions are welcome.

Oh snap the Proclaimers, I'm seeing them live in August!

Neil Young's my go to road trip guy. I ten towards Rust Never Sleeps because that record is amazing.

also Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith best road trip song ever.
