ROAD TRIP!

So, I'm going on a road trip this summer. I'm flying from Amsterdam to Vancouver, and after a few days in Vancouver, We're taking a bus to Seattle, where we will rent a car and tour to Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and back. I would love to hear about your experiences with the cities, and maybe have some tips or things to look out for.

but since I don't know any Canadians/Americans In real life, I thought: "Why not ask my fellow escapists?" Have you been to these cities? Are there some awesome sights to behold in the general area? Any other general tips? Anything would be nice!

Either way, I'm super excited! It is my first time outside Europe, but I've been to almost every country in Europe before, so I'm not totally new to traveling.

All I can say is be smart in Vegas. When we were there one of my friends was doing REALLY good at blackjack. I kid you not, he got taken outside by some dude who was pissed off and demanded he confess he was cheating. He then made my friend make it up to him by driving a few whores around to the hotels their customers were at. How awesome is that? My friend taxi'd whores for a night.....

Seattle is where Valve is based. While your there, try to break in and get Episode 3 for us.

As for the other cities, I've went to San Francisco a couple of times. Nice city I guess. Just passed through it though, never actually stayed for a period of time.

Oh, and for Vegas, try to explore around and see all the stuff that was in New Vegas. Only the stuff in life will be alive. Places like Nipton and Goodsprings are really in the area around Vegas. Though they're much bigger, and more spread apart.

Ah, Portland.

Go to Powells Book Store (takes up a whole city block), Ozone Records (pretty much next door to aforementioned Powells) and Ground Kontrol (more fully-functional pinball machines than I've ever seen in one location, other arcade games, and drink stands to put your beer/cider/whatever while you play).

Shows come through there all the time. Dantes is a great venue, can't recommend them enough.

Have fun making it over the border. They do extensive spot checks at the Canadian/American border, where they rifle through your luggage and search through your laptop/HDD/iPods. You may make it through with no trouble, or it may be a 4 hour wait while they go through your shit.

Hah, didn't know it was legal in Vegas, I assumed it was illegal nationwide. Anyway, I'm from the Netherlands, so going abroad looking for prostitutes is like an Australian going abroad to look for kangaroos
