So after flipping around online I came across this... interesting design choice for what looks to be a mecha version of Batman.

I remember the original RoboCop and loved it, but seeing this is just depressing.

Are you guys 'excited' about this remake, or do you still have the bitter taste of the remake of in your mouths?

Too early to tell, that may not even be Murphy for all we know.
If hypothetically it is, well then the new RoboCop Guyver movie should be fun.

I'm going to give this movie a chance, because every movie deserves one. Also, it said that this is only one of the suits, so it could just be used for a stealth scene and the real suit will come the rest of the time. Who knows?

The costume looks like shit and the movie might be absolutely terrible but that's hardly a reason to say remakes are bad. Anything has the potential to be good

If the movie worked the first time, why remake it into something different?

Now, if it was crap the first time, I guess doing it again until you get it right makes some kind of sense.

Oh, that's Murphy alright. There's another photo with Kinnaman clearly visible wearing the suit.

Looks like a waste of time, to be honest. Judging from the scathing script reviews and plot breakdown, it seems like MGM is just rushing this to production to capitalize on the remake craze.

There have been very few sci-fi remakes that have lived up to their predecessors. The Total Recall remake, for instance, was a waste of time and completely forgotten. The only film I can remember taking a new spin with the material and improving a film that wasn't that great to begin with was Cronenberg's Fly remake.

This just looks like the production team decided to make it incredibly topical without understanding the elements that made the original work so well. The script rundowns I've read seem absurd - the new Lewis is a coward who runs away while Murphy gets shot to death, then decides to start a relationship with his widow after he's supposedly gone. The ED-209 units are now attack drones who have no defining characteristics. Murphy is still alive when they pop him into the suit.

If that's the best they can do, they can count me out.

If it comes to comic-characters and movie-remakes i`m a bit over critical. Those adaptions/remakes tend to move away from the source material and i hate it most of the time. The Blade movie is the only exception comming to my mind right now. It`s such a waste and i don`t get why they don´t start something new instead of creating crap out of my favorite childhood movies.

Can't decide from just one picture of some suit. I'll give it a chance, it's not like the original was some kind of a masterpiece and the remake will ruin it, it wont, and the original wasn't all that great, i wouldn't have liked it as much if i wasn't around ten years old when i watched it.

Looks more like a gritty reboot of Silverhawks.

Damn. Now I really want a Silverhawks movie.

Remakes aren't bad things, look at James Bond. Every time they recast him it is a bit of a remake. For the most part this has worked out.
The problem comes from bad scripts, rushed production times, brainless studio execs, and other factors that go into making bad movies in general.

However, there is a serious flaw when remaking something and doing a crap job of it, and its an important rule when making a game/movie/story.
Don't remind the audience of something better that they could be watching/playing/reading.

I'm not inherently turned off by the radically different suit. Honestly they were never going to be able to make the original but better so going a very different direction is the only hope this thing has.

Maybe it'll even be decent but I'm not really getting why there's this sudden rush to remake every Paul verhoeven film. Does this mean remakes of Showgirls and Flesh+Blood are upcoming?

Anyone care to post up the image here? Going to the linked website crashes my computer and it's a real pain having to restart everything.

Thank Ye Kind Sir!

Kinda looks like Murphy stole a prototype to Christian Bale's Batsuit.
Overall a resounding MEH. I probably won't watch the remake and if I ever do feel the urge to see a Robocop movie then why not just watch the original two, Cheese and all?

My initial thought was: Meh.
My second thought was: That's something that I gotta at least see a trailer to see if it works.

Armor looks like crap and movie will most likely not be good. Probably going to remove all the humor and social satire of the original like they did with Total Recall to make it "edgy" and "dark". -_- Really wish we could have good remakes again, like we did in the 80's with The Fly and The Thing. :\

I have an automatic "Meh" reflex just about anytime I read the words remake or reboot.

Personally, my hopes on this one aren't too high. Did a quick perusal on IMDb of the behind the scenes folks and based on that, it's hard to tell how this one's going to break.

The director is a relative newcomer from Brazil and this is the first project for one of the three screenwriters (though he's listed for "uncredited rewrites on "Quantum of Solace"). The other two are responsible for "Grand Torino" and "The Amazing Spider-Man". So...who knows?

I just hope they don't short change that underlying sense of satire that all Verhoeven's Sci-Fi movies have in favor of more "eye-popping" CGI (I'm looking at YOU, Len Wiesman...)
