i can understand if they spent all of the tax payer money on 360s and rockband for each classroom and not teaching the students at all but short of that....
(let me know if anyone can find a school that would do that i must attend it)

Here's an interesting story. My mom works at a library. She had the library buy a Wii and Rockbands 1 and 2. You know what? There's way more kids in that library now, even on days without the wii.

If I understand this story right, they're getting into trouble not for playing Rock Band but for using taxpayer money to purchase the equipment. The fact is, that Rock Band is not related to Libraries in any way, and even though it probably would get more kids into Libraries you've got to run that sort of expenditure past the people who are giving you the money.

They should have made a case for Rock Band to be included in the Library, pure and simple. They should have asked for permission to buy the equipment by outlining exactly how this equipment would be of use to the Library.

Videogames in libraries? That kind of defeats the purpose of going to the library(a quiet place to study).

Wow. I mean, I don't care if they don't know the difference between the games or what they are called, but if you are going to sell something as news, the least they can do, the very least, is some fucking research on the topic you are broadcasting. seriously. a quick google search will do the trick. the lazy fucking twats.

It is very sad that my brain was confused by the presence of a dude in conjunction with the grouping "librarians". Up until today, I had never, not once in my 25 years, considered the possibility of a male librarian.

I am not joking,

I'll bet the entire time they played that game, not a single person visited the library, dare I say the librarians don't always have their hands full!
They did this while the library was closed; most non-college based libraries aren't open very late.

What else are these librarians going to do all day... Check in and out books people aren't reading? It's an awesome yet outdated medium; at least this would get kids interested in a place where books are also an option.

I actually have a good friend who is a library manager, which btw is something you need a degree in, there's a lot more work than you could imagine. He's a dude. Actually at my college only one woman worked in the library. My elementary school librarian was also a dude (in a wheelchair). I guess Nebraska is just more progressive in the library sciences than your area, Geoff.

The library commission's web site has a report from the auditor that lists the cost at $447.17. One of the auditor's complaints is that they shouldn't have paid the 29.26 in sales tax.

Is it really worth the auditor office's time to research these purchases considering the commission's budget is in the millions? How much taxpayer money was spent on the investigation?

The report also mentions the libraries use of social media and virtual worlds. The commission fired back with well-researched 27-page retort. (including an impeccable bibliography, of course)

I'm inclined to think this is probably the biggest political conflict Nebraska has had in a while. I wonder if this will set any precedent for using these technologies in other state library systems.

I wonder if they played it with the volume off? Anyways who cares, it's not like they did anything wrong, when there's no work you can't be expected to do anything. The little douchebag "Concerned citizen" can go to hell, who gives a crap what librarians do, it's a thankless job (as far as I have seen) and all they were doing is chilling, if they pulled out a crack pipe then there might be a reason for someone to be (slightly) worried, but a videogame is crap all reason for them to freak out.

Obviously the "taxpayer" doesnt use the library much or the librarians wouldnt have time to play Rock Band. If I had a job where I got a stack of free time every day, I would probably play games as well.

They wouldnt even need a goole search if they watched the vid. It states at the start "ROCK BAND" and a quick look at the box when they set it up says the same. Its cause the media doesnt need to get its facts right, because the general public will just take their word for it.

Whoever the whiny little bastard was should keep his mouth shut, in my opinion.
But hey, that's just me.
but if we allow behavior like this to continue they will be able to help young people with their favorite games, will show that you can indeed have fun inside a library that doesn't involve nudity. in short it will assist in bringing people into the library! and if those children stayed long enough, they might gain literacy!!

just what is it you are trying to accomplish here? encouraging people to congregate in public libraries, for shame!

Since the government is taking my money anyway, I have no problem with them doing this kind of stuff to bring kids into a library. At least they're doing something cool with my tax dollars.
