Rogue Warrior: What was Bethesda thinking?!?

I was just reading some reviews lately and wandered across the game Rogue Warrior. I was a little intrigued because of the horrible reviews it was receiving and looked at some gameplay footage and video reviews on the net.

All I could think was "What was Bethesda thinking?". I was just wondering if you guys had any ideas about how or why something like this was even made.

It seems to include:

-Lackluster graphics
-Horrible AI
-Generic story and weapons
-Over the top language

Admittedly I have not played the game, but I feel I've seen enough from watching the videos. Is this the same Bethesda Softworks that made my beloved Oblivion? Because if it is I'm disappointed to say the least. (Apparently they only published it, but even still...)

I'd like to hear your opinions regarding this seemingly horrible game.

It was published by them, they didn't actually make it.

Rebellion Developments made it.
Hey Thanks for letting me know! But even still...did they even look at the game? I'm not sure I would even want to be associated with this piece of software...

Bethesda was the publisher. So you can sleep well tonight knowing that Bethesda didn't make a crap game. But you won't tomorow when the idea that they were involved somehow in this crap game hits you like a truck.

Well I was talking to the OP, so I had to reassure him according to his opinion or what I believe his opinion on Bethesda, which I reckon is pretty big.

I dunno I don't think they should be allowed to skate. They put thier name on it. They get the glory if it is good and the crap if it is bad.

Name without using google 10 critically bad games that ea have published. Its not that easy also most people will have the same opinion as countless others here. That is well they didnt make it so its not their fault. Every big company makes some mistakes especially publishers

Actually no. Completely different character, based on self-gratifying stories written by some ex-soldier named Richard Marcinko starring himself (and his penis which he just LOVES to write about). Yeah, his books are utter drek.

Your thinking of Rogue Trooper, and yes it's a comic in the 2100 AD universe.

Rogue Warrior is just a bad game apparently. Though this should NOT surprise anything because whether they create it or not Bethesda is not exactly known for making good games excepting their main Elder Scrolls series (Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowwind, and Oblivion) and of course now Fallout 3. Just about everything else they have released through the years has quite frankly been at best mediocre. Ranging from a race car game (X Racers I believe), to a Star Wars chess program, to a Star Trek game for the PSP. Their Elder Scrolls spin offs which broke away from the sandbox mould were likewise fairly bad, neither Battlespire or Redguard were paticularly successful.

I've been of the opinion for a while that they should stick to sandbox RPGs. They have experimented with a number of generes, which I guess I can't fault them for, but in general they seem to have failed in just about all of them.

Not a slam, just an observation.

I bet they turned a profit, part of which will go towards makeing their generally good games. I think that is all the excuse for publishing it they need. Besides, if they didn't make it, and likely wern't involved in designing it, it would be very easy to be convinced that it was a good game by the developers. Bethesda is no more flawed then the gamers out there who bought the game and didn't like it: Actually, Bethesda is LESS at fault then those gamers, because gamers have fairly impartial sources judging the final product, while Bethesda has the sales pitches of the biased developers before the game was done. Bethesda made the game availible, but didn't force anyone to buy it. Therefore, I don't think this reflects on them negatively.

Yes it is: Fifa 1995 - Fifa 10.
See? Done.
Maybe they weren't all crap, but it stayed the same, that counts as crap for me.

EDIT: Wait a sec... They did publish those, right?

Bethesda is great at throwing together a large volume of content but not great at designing rules or detailed content. See Wet if you don't believe me. The rules of Oblivion aren't balanced or interesting in the slightest, but for the pleasure of walking through such an extensive and open world we'll pretty much swallow anything.

Yes they did. Look it up on Wikipedia. Also the pile of lousy movie and TV show-liscensed games they've published and produced, like The Simpsons game and the Futurama game.

I'd like to point out the fact that you have a hard time naming them proves nothing except that you weren't an idiot and didn't buy or pay attention the schlock they put out. Also, if you let critics tell you what to like you clearly have no need of your brain and should donate it to mad science for use in a brain-powered supercomputer. Seriously, you're going to listen to the guys who haven't updated their reviewing and scoring practices since the Nintendo 64/Playstation era and beyond and don't know anything about producing games?
