Just blown the dust off of my Far Cry 2 case, taken the strategy guide from the bookshelf and getting ready to play, but this time I fancy a twist. I don't want to just go in with the best gun I have until I upgrade to a better gun. I want to stick loyally to one type of guns and adopt some sort of class, if you will. So I was wondering on your ideas on this. which class should I be i.e. sniper, geurilla, demoman etc. and which character would be most suited to this class, and why?

EDIT: I want to stick to a particular fashion because it keeps the game realistic in a way and, I can't explain it, it just makes for a better gaming experience

EDIT II: Also, what weapons would you recommend for this particular class. And what vehicles. I this a demoman would be better suited to the jeep with a turret rather than a buggy or hang-glider

Hmm... A good question. And I wish I could offer a better response.

I say demo man. That way you can just blow your problems into tiny bits

I mowed my way through fictionesia through most of the game with the Dragunov, the Uzi sidearm, and an RPG launcher.
So is that like a sniper/demo man hybrid? At any rate, it fit my play style very well.

And I believe that on my first playthrough, I was that American from Oklahoma, and on the second playthrough, I was Andre Hyppolite. I used basically the same combo for both. Andre seems like he would be ideal for a "guerrilla" character (i.e. clad in a beret, a bandolier, wielding an M249 SAW), but the American hotshot seems to me like he'd be suited to carrying around the SPAS-12 shotty and a grenade launcher, with a standard pistol sidearm.

I already do this and its great fun.

I go stealth

1-Machete (der)
2-IED's, use them like claymores
3-Sniper Rifle of your choosing
4-Flamethrower, so you can burn out the SOB's before you go on a hunting rampage.

I find it is fun to plant a few IED's around the perimetre of the enemies, start a wildfire with the flamethrower and just pick the rest of.

Hearing their screaming voices never ceases to please me >:-D

But thats just me

It does'nt matter what character you pick. They are purely cosmetic, and it's very fun to snipe but you'll have to repair it cos about 5 shots will break it.

Yeah it is cosmetic, but it does make the game more immersive. Like a Russian with a strong russian accent would be heavy weapons (damn you TF2 for warping my mind) and Andre with the beret makes for a good geurilla, thanks for that G1eet

Stealth characters are fun. Difficult, nigh impossible when travelling the map, but fun. Note that by stealth I'm assuming that you're going to role play actual stealth, avoid un necesary conflict because, as a role player, you expect consequences. So with minimum bloodshed, stealth characters are VERY difficult. Fortunately, it's also very satisfying to go in, place the IED, leave and detonate, watching from a nearby hilltop. If you DO go stealth, MP5SD, IEDs or silenced pistol, plus the dart gun. And where possible, get that buggy and drive it offroad, good way of avoiding firefights. Though if you really want fun... Grenade launcher, grenade launcher sidearm, flamethrower. Just be sure to restock very often.

a good pistol i guess whould be an uzi or whatever it is in far cry 2. i havent played that in forever. if you have the uzi than you can get like a sniper because you dont need to worry if your plan goes to shit. i personaly dont like the flamethrower. In poor conditions, it jams more frequntly than any other weapon. Also the range sucks. if you do multiplayer, DO NOT use the flamethrower. It cant light a bush on fire with all the gas in it. Really I tried. For my special wepon, I like an rpg. It whould seem like ammo whould be scarce for it but its acualy evereywhere.

It's wierd, the game felt like I was in a James Bond film. I think you should play an assassin/sniper class.

So silenced pistol, sniper, and whatever you want for the others.

Stealth is near impossible in FarCry 2, since enemies pretty much always know where you are.

....? It's one of the easiest games for stealth I've ever played. Just stick to cover and bushes, and shadows. If you're finding it tricky, get the camo suit.

Flame trooper, nothing but fire based weapons and your machete
Put that on the highest difficulty and do the game and you can have my blood

Stealth only seems to work until you've killed one person. Even if you did it with a silenced pistol everyone now knows where you are.

I've got the camo suit. Every time I attempt to sneak, the enemy seems to automatically know where I am and shoot me through bushes.

I played as a sniper. The first thing I got was a long-range scoped rifle (the wooden one, which I stayed with for 99% of the game) and the stealth suit and blew things up with IEDs. Occasionally I'd open an ambush with a hail of light machine-gun fire.

It made me feel very much like a guerrilla woodsman, like the Finns during the Winter War.
