To fullmetal: I think somebody having their stomach blown up while hes talking about pretty lights is much more creepier then just a body. Oh yeah, and a pen going through a guys eye, somebody being burnt 3/4ths to death.. I can go more..
I would like to take this chance to say that the rating system makes no sense.
No, it doesn't. The MPAA probably got de facto-ly forced into it because it was such a big title.

Also, Bullet, I don't remember someone having their stomach blown up.
The big guy in the prison with the phone in his stomach.

Oh now I remember. But it didn't show him exploding, just the explosion from outside the building.

I dunno if this counts, but I thought Punch-Drunk Love was excellent. It's really more about the awkward character than the romance, but still, give it a try. It features Adam Sandler in one of his more serious roles, and I've found his serious movies tend to be fantastic.

Thats the point. The movie is just as bad as a rated r physiologically, just not physically.

Physiologically>Physically.

White Christmas is my favorite Christmas movie, well actually it's tied with Love Actually (another amazing romantic movie). But my favorite romantic movies are (be warned I am a girl, so I actually love romantic movies and some of them may be sappy!):
10 Things I Hate About You
You've Got Mail
Romancing The Stone (older but still great!)
The Notebook
Ever After
27 Dresses
Enchanted
First Knight (action and romance)
Hitch
Mamma Mia
The Princess Bride
The Scarlet Pimpernel (It's old and obscure, but I love it anyway)
When Harry Met Sally
While You Were Sleeping

Sorry I know it was long, but they are all awesome! I'm sure I could come up with more if given more time! Enjoy!
As a guy, those are pretty good ones, especially Princess Bride because it's simply a classic (and highly quotable). I personally didn't like Hitch because I honestly can't stand Eva Mendes.

One problem with most romance movies is many of them are (IMO) very contrived. There are some that are genuinely entertaining and I'll watch them with my wife. I would add:

As Good As It Gets
Big Fish
Great Expectations

But also, don't ever let these movies change your opinion about your relationship:

I'm going to assume you meant Psychologically and go from there. Yeah, it is, Warner just wanted to make more money by making it PG-13 so they made sure they didn't show any actual violence.
It has to actually show it. For example, the animated movie The Road to El Dorado has a scene that is pretty much a sex scene, and yet is rated PG.

Good lord. No R movies? I'm pretty sure that at least 80 percent of my favorite movies are R rated.

I'm scanning my shelf right now... The Matrix, Fight Club, Blade Runner, 12 Monkeys, 28 Days Later, Alien, Apocalypse Now.... Starship Troopers...

I don't know how I could live without these.

Oh, and to answer the question, Zack and Miri is my favorite "romantic comedy", unless we are also including Shaun of the Dead.

If you are going to learn anything from those movies, it is only that those situations, while portrayed as more realistic than an alien abduction or Jurassic Park, will probably never happen to you, and I think they set an unrealistic standard for relationships. Not that it's their job to be responsible for the standards they set, that falls upon us, but I choose not to indulge. And I've been married for two years, so I have seen enough of them.

Oh, how about the Titanic. Bodies galore.
I don't watch any rated 'R' movies.
What are you talking about? Titanic is a 12.

Amelie was good, though it's a generally uplifting movie - not necessarily all that romantic, though. Keeping with French films, La Fille sur le Pont [http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi938017049/] immediately springs to my mind, even though that's fairly obscure.

On the more mainstream side, if you need guns and explosions to get you going, Mr and Mrs Smith might be worth watching.

You won't find great romance in movies unfortunately, go read a few books. Dante's Divine Comedy, may not seem like it since it's talking about the depths of hell and all, but a man goes all through the depths of hell to find his beloved Beatrice. I find that quite the heart string puller.

Oh goodness it is PG-13. I was lied to.

But I still don't think I'd like it.

And I have seens Mr. and Mrs. Smith, but I should have been more clear that I like extremely realistic explosions and bodies.

True Romance, I love that movie. Also one of Quentin Tarantino's first major movies, As well it is a romance film and also has some action dealing with life in general. Never met a guy who didn't like this romance movie.

My goodness.....Nobody has even mentioned 'A Fish Called Wanda'?!

It is a true romantic comedy, and it's one of the funnier films out there.

Do yourself a huge favor and watch the aforementioned film.

Only 14A in Canada.
Gotta love Canada huh? It has to pretty much be a blood bath or a porno to warrant above 14A. But sex/nudity/swearing is par for the course, it's the violence that will usually push it to 18A.

Pretty much the polar opposite of the US.

Romantic comedies are produced at a ratio of 416:1 to other films. They're cheap in so many ways and they always insist on 'cookie' (I hate that word) characters.

I don't mind happy endings, that's probably one of the reasons I enjoy 'my name is earl' but you can have too much slush and have a bitter taste in the back of my mouth as a result...

I have read through this entire thread and am shocked and surprised that no-one, NO-ONE, has mentioned Romeo + Juliet (that is, the one by Baz Luhrman, with Leo di Caprio and Clare Danes). That has to be one of the best romance films ever, since not only is it based on the greatest love story of all time but is also directed by Baz Luhrman, who as mentioned on this same thread already was responsible for another great romance, Moulin Rouge. In addition, I would include in no particular order:

The Phantom of the Opera
Hitch
Music and Lyrics
The Notebook
Twilight (don't have a go at me for that one...)
Titanic
Atonement
Twelfth Night (OK, I'm talking about a play there, but still...)
Love Actually
Bridget Jones (both films there)
Mamma Mia!

I would also love to see 10 Things I Hate About You, my ex-girlfriend was going to bring it when she planned to visit me at university last month but sadly she had to cancel the trip.
