Has there ever been a story of a YouTuber collective becoming corporate that ended well? Genuine question there. Probably the only thing that I can think of right now is Dude Perfect. Unless they've been cancelled and no one told me yet.

Viva La Dirt League?

Though, looking into it, when they went corporate there was a big falling out, 3 of the original 5 members left, and the remaining 2 didn't achieve anything for the next two years before becoming somewhat successful again.

That's not an apology. That's Gavin saying "please don't be mad at me I don't do that anymore."
I don't see the words "I'm sorry" anywhere in there.
When you sit around on top of your pile of money for years and then express remorse only when your bad actions are revealed, that's not "I'm sorry I did that"- it's "I'm sorry I got caught; I was hoping to get away with it forever". This is the mark of an asshole who should lose everything they ever gained from their bad actions.

I had to google them, so they're the people who are behind the video game RPG sketches I used to see on facebook all the time. But from what you're saying, doesn't sound like much of a good ending to me.

Well, depends on your standards. It seems that after their 2 years of nothing much they are currently big enough to make careers out of it, but they are unlikely to ever be rich.

Well as you said, "they" is less than half of the original group. As a group, seems like a pretty big failure if 60% of the cast leaves before things get successful. Sorta a ship of Theseus situation.

Ah yes, was thinking of the group as they are now, not the ones that started out. Just focusing on the originals, it's not looking good, no.

I don't think that Gavin is necessarily a bad guy. He was literally just a teenager when he joined Rooster Teeth. He took shitty cues from the "adults" in the room about how it was appropriate to act in business.

But he also never did anything when he grew up and realized that he had been acting like an immature little twat, and also still hasn't actually offered an apology. And I do think that at this point he's more worried about reputational fallout to himself and his brand (he does a lot of work separate from Rooster Teeth) than he is about actually expressing remorse for his actions.

Have The Hacksmith or Linus Tech Tips had any abuse allegations made against them or any really significant controversies?

The only ones that spring to mind with LTT were some barney over a warranty for their backpack and screwdriver - which I think were fair criticisms - and their previous social media manager left the company after only a short time employed. But if there was anything not kosher going on she's not felt the need to say so.

LTTs been around for so long I don't really see them as a YouTuber collective. But you're right, they're easily one of the most successful on the platform.

Has the Hacksmith gone even MORE corporate? My impression was that they were always a company.

Linus talked about some allegations made against him here:

Yeah I think that was the backpack thing where his idea of a warranty was, and I quote “Trust me bro” and then I think some of his other employees said “It doesn’t work that way boss” or they deployed a Tactical Yvonne Strike. I forget which.
