Just a survey on RP's, if people can fill this out that would be great.

Feel free to expand on any of these, and if you don't want to fill in any questions it's not a problem.

Present - Modern day (includes cowboys, marines and near future.)

Past - Medieval

Please state why.

Story

Which do you prefer to RP?
Open -> do what you want and the RP develops around you

Semi Linear-> the RP is set, but there are multiple routes and endings based on player choices

No details-> you control the environment and what you see

There is no -best- setting for an RP. The concept of the RP is a lot more than just whether it's 'past, present, or future', especially since those are incredibly broad territories. Star Wars, for example, is technically set in the past if you want to be anal retentive.

Semi-linear would be the ideal in my opinion - I like an open world with an overarching situation. Being on obvious rails can be very frustrating, but having everyone just run around doing their own thing quickly gets dull.

Detail about significant things. You don't need to be going into focus on the look of a tuft of grass, save the speeches for the artifacts of doom.

Use of pictures is unimportant to me in general, I could really care less. Personally, I rarely use them, hunting around the 'net for a useful picture can be very time consuming and annoying.

-There is no best setting, although I do have a preference for original ideas because I like variety.

-Semi-linear. I like the idea of plot with a solid beginning and end, but with freedom as to what happens in between.

-Maps are usually a plus

-The style needs to be defined, as well as detailed, though I prefer it to be done through words rather than pictures. A lot of the time, a picture starkly contrasts with the setting; you wouldn't believe how often a picture with a dark mood about it gets submitted into an RP with a mood that is otherwise suppose to be vibrant, or when animeesque design gets paired with European fantasy.

Time

I personally like the present as it's easier to come with a consistent world since you know all of the tech and attitudes right away.

Story

I'd say Semi-Linear, there should be an over-arching plot controlled by the GM but he or she should give players choices at times which will affect that plot and allow them to express themselves.

Maps

Local region, as with country or world it's so large that it's just a load of names. Not that fussed about maps really though, better just to invent when it's convienient.

What kind of detail do you prefer?

From the GM, a basic description is best, so that the players can invent a little of their environment to suit they're needs. Also imagination is easy to harness in these scenes so neither the GM nor the players need to describe their surrounding in much more detail than is enough to convey the general feel of the area.

Artistry

How important is pictures of events/activities/landscapes for you?

Unimportant in my opinion, it isn't difficult to write a couple of lines describing a landscape or event.

Even if you said unimportant previously please rank these on if they were/are important to you

Character pictures

Though a description will do fine, character pictures are nice, as long as they aren't anime (unless it's an RP based on an anime). I have nothing against anime, watch it myself, but it's characters are very stylised and an anime portrait tells me almost nothing what that character actually looks like if they're "real".

A consistent style

Preferred, although if you find a better style later then with the permission of your players you should be able to change.

How much Quality is required of pictures/images

Moderate is fine, they are only there to give an idea about what they are showing.
