I just got a free trial of RPG Maker and I was wondering if anyone knew how to use it, or could help point me to some useful tutorials. Thanks!

Oh, I used to use that thing all the time! I can't really give you any pointers on it without being there, but just fool around with it. It's really easy to get used to.

I had it on the PS2. I never really figured out how to use it, try google or youtube.
The PS2 versions all sucked. There wasn't nearly enough customization possibilities. The PC versions are amazing, though.

Speaking of which, to the OP, which version did you get? I would reccomend VX for a begginer, but then move on to XP or 2003, depending on whether you want the ABS or a classic turn based system.

Is this free, or not? If so, give me a link so I can download it.

I remember playing around with this on the PC a year or so ago. Really just play around with the different options. Its a lot of fun once you get your head around it.

I used it to illustrate my D&D games with friends.

I use it every now and again, XP that is, I wont write a tutorial for you thought, not that I carnt be bothered its just I'm bad at explaining things, but theres a website called RPGPalace that might be helpfull I also learned quite alot from youtube videos and experimenting, I'd recommend buying it though becuase you wont be able to learn it all and be able to create a game withing a 30 day trial.

I always picked that up every year or so in high school. I was never able to complete a project. I always got way to wrapped up in database stuff, then plot and before I could even get to the beginning of fucking level design I was bored and had found cooler concepts to work with. It never took longer than 2 weeks for me to give up on the project.
Now I won't go near the thing since the only thing it makes well is JRPGs and I hove no desire to pump out another one of those. Particularly since the toolset creates such generic ones.

Same. I had so many ideas and never finished a game. And I've gone through RPG Maker 2000, 2003, and XP.

I get into a simlier situation, I design all my characters, all the annimations, all the weapons, so on and so forth, get to about the first few maps and then I get like writers block and I give up lol.

I used to screw around with it a bit. It's not that hard to use, just spend some time just... checkin' out the features, look at all the menus n' stuff. Create a test level, you don't need to publish it or anything, and see how it is.

You could also look up some tutorials online.

I know somebody who's a master of that program. I can give you his email, if'n you want. He taught me how to use it; I just never got into it.
