I got my girlfriend into gaming with this game. It meets all your criteria. I highly recommend it.Monkeyman8 said:Divine Divinity, Divine Divinity, Divine Divinity, Divine Divinity, Divine Divinity, it's very unappreciated, makes me sad. Open world, humor, fantasy, real time with pause. I think it plays a lot like Archanum, it's been a while since I've seen that game so I'm liable to be wrong.
Shame.JEBWrench said:As for FFT, she's not big into tactics-based RPGs; she didn't care at all for Fire Emblem (on my last attempt to find a non-casual game she liked.)
Agreed. It's a bit grind-heavy, but it is a beautiful game, and one of my all time favorites. Best of all, it is simple while still being engaging. It has a lot of heart, and knows when to take itself seriously and when to joke around. To me, it was a breath of fresh air.Ando3242 said:Great game and it really opens up near the end. I completed it in about 72 hours then by the time I had done just about everything you can do in the game that tacked on an additional 30+ hours. One of the best RPGs I had played in years. Comes at a steal price of 9.99 at gamestop.Subzerowings said:Dragon Quest 8: Journey of the Cursed King.
It's a ps2 game but it'll last you a very, very, very long time.
I'd say at least 100 hours of gameplay.
There's so much to do, even after you finish the game.
I'm trying to get my mitts on FFX, because I actually kinda liked that one, though not as much as the earlier generations. Persona, that's part of the Shin Megami Tensei universe, right? I don't know if that would go over too terribly well with my Catholic-raised wife... And if I can find Shadow Hearts anywhere, I'd go for that, because I loved that damn game.ManaAdvent said:Pretty much most FF games. Take your pick.
Also, Golden Sun series, Dragon Quest series, Persona series, and Shadow Hearts Covenant.
Hey, don't diss Championship Manager! I love Sports Interactive games. You could call them RPGS! Totally - what with the stats and the levelling up sorta that goes on... Yeah, I stole that from, um, I think it was Hurr Derp Durr (Hurr Durr Derp?) HDD.Abedeus said:Any Bioware game, any Atlus games (Shin Megami Tensei - Persona 3/4, Devil Survivor, Devil Summoner series, Strange Journey on the DS), Fallouts, Golden Sun on the GBA...
Also, I feel the need to kick in the face everyone who said "Fable". Why would I do such a thing... Oh, and Championship Manager 2009, also an awesome RPG! Just like Fable. Or Assassin's Creed 2.
NwN runs bad? I dunno, seems fine to me.JEBWrench said:Note: This is what happens when I don't do enough research. There is no Dragon Age demo. Knowing it's a BioWare game, how does its gameplay compare to Neverwinter Nights (which I have, but runs like a legless ass on multicore machines)?
I've been trying for quite some time now to get it to function decently. It may very well be the mediocre graphics cards on our machines, but I've tried everything from adjusting the core priorities to trying every operating system we have to no avail. Which irritates me, because I would love to be able to play it again.Abedeus said:NwN runs bad? I dunno, seems fine to me.JEBWrench said:Note: This is what happens when I don't do enough research. Well, as an NwN vet (started playing week after release in my country), I loved Dragon Age. But you do need a nice PC, mid-range at least, to enjoy fluid graphics.
I've just about got her convinced to try Fallout, which I consider to be quite awesome. But she's still somewhat tenative, as she would rather have a fantasy setting. Hopefully the appeal of retro-futuristic SCIENCE! will win over.Evil the White said:The first two Fallout games. Brilliant storytelling, turn based combat, etc. Fallout 3 is just different.
