Which do you prefer to play, real time strategy games or turn based strategy games?

I personally like playing RTSs more than the other. Don't get me wrong, I still play TBSs, but I find that play more RTSs.

Doesn't really matter for me, I like how Sins of a Solar Empire kind of mixed them together, made RTS games less of a click fest.

I don't think I really prefer one over the other. There seem to be more RTS games though.

turned based is nice because you are never in a rush.
real time is nice because you are never waiting too long.

Real time strategy in my opinion is better. I just can't stand turn based anymore. I use to play those kind of games all the time.

Turn-based for sure, but if the RTS uses an inventive system (ie, NOT base-building and micromanagement all over the place) I'm open to experimentation.

I prefer TBS, simply because I suck at the twitch skills needed. Though, I'm fine with either.

I have noticed that RTS is having less "micromanagement" required, and less "MUST KNOW HOTKEYS!" - and if there is any base building, there is little of it..although, some newer releases still have the need to build so many damn buildings.

I like both, but if I was forced to choose I would have to go turn-based. Turn-based games, in my experience, are better play balanced and require actual strategies. Real-time games are less about strategy than tactics, which is cool too (it's just awkward trying to ambush a guy's flank in a TBS), but all too often just devolves into zerg rush battles and my-army-is-bigger-than-yours.

I've found that turn based games tend to have more strategy in them... your standard RTS (C&C, Supreme Commander) tends to just boil down to BUILD BUILD BUILD BUILD RUSH! Whereas you can only do so much in one turn in most turn based games- makes it a more thoughtful game.

The key exception to this is of course Dawn of War where your unit caps make things infinitely more strategic...

I like RTS's, and I can usually do fine playing the single player games, but I still have nightmares about how woefully unprepared I was to step into WC3 multiplayer. I lost in under five minutes, I'm pretty sure.

Those people may be using the same tools as I am, much as both myself and Michelangelo held paint brushes, but they are not playing the same game that I am.

RTS all the way, and unlike many I enjoy base building and micromanaging, for example my favorite rts is Supreme Commander, simply cause of the enourmous amount of buildings and units you can construct.

I like TBS better only because I can get up and do something else if I have to. RTS I like better against others online or linked.

I prefer TBS as well. Just seems to me RTS revolves more around lightning-quick clicking and micro-management than coming up with good strategies. That plan to flank your opponent on both sides doesn't mean jack if most players just rush you. Granted, most of my sentiments have been expressed already.

On PCs I do somewhat prefer RTS games. Enjoy the faster pace of sending an army to their doom as I head back to base to train a second wave.

On my PSP and DS, however, I prefer TBS. It was great with, say, Final Fantasy Tactics and FFTA where I can close the game near any time and not have to worry about getting killed suddenly. Perfect for the armchair strategist.

RTS on consoles usually fail miserably simply due to the fact that a controller can't do what a mouse and keyboard are designed for. Starcraft 64 was decent only because they slowed down the game to give you a fighting chance.

I personally prefer RTS's, if only for Company of Heroes (whichis extremely tactical, and clever, and will mince you if you try to clickfest out your enemies) but I agree that TBS is better for certain games- like FFTA on GBA and Field Commander on PSP, as well as certain games like the Battle Isle series.

Personally, I HATE TBS games. They are usually slow-paced, monotonus, and grind-tastic. I REALLY don't want to sound like some action-crazed junkie but I just don't like having to wait my turn to attack. Just my opinion.

I think both are Great.

I've always loved RTS games, since this one game i downloaded off of Kazaa in 3rd grade that everyone had been playing. I just kept fortifying and amassing an army. I didn't even mind the fighting, but the sheer growth of my empire was always my focus. I had put Strategy games away for a while and recently wanted to buy a new one, so i could get back into multi-genre gaming [i rpg]. I looked a long time and eventually narrowed it down to three games. Command and Conquer, Starcraft, and Sins of a Solar Empire. From what i had seen, Sins had sweapt the admiration of many a reviewer, so i purchased a copy.

I loved it. I made fleets of over 100 disciples and such and let them loose upon my foes, constantly backing them up and fortifying my defences, it was a great game, and is a great game.

Recently i jailbroke my ipod, so i downloaded a GBA emulator. I asked on another forum what the best games for it were and got mostly the same answers: Advance Wars [1 and 2], Fire Emblem [1 and 2], and Golden Sun [1 and 2]. As well as some talk of FFTA, but debate about the legitimacy of the "Law" system put in place. From some of what ive played of Fire Emblem, it feels alot like Heroes of might and magic, moving my troops to the enemy troops, and attacking and such. And it was really fun too. I dont know if HoMM is the Pinacle of TBS, but i like the system used and such, so i hope i dont get flamed for using it as my referance =P

[whew, nice first post!]
