I thought you meant it could actually open a wormhole, I huzzah'd for a moment there.

It is a truly wonderful device...

Just a shame it has no practical application in the modern world...
No one's gonna pay money for a machine that solves rubix cubes for them...

Unless they pay for that Giant Rubix cube that solves itself...

Not disputing what he's made is awesome, just hope he did some other noteworthy stuff within those 2 years...

Fairly impressive but I would like to see it do it in under 4 seconds which is just about the limit of human achievement.

Every rubik's cube can be solved in about twenty moves considering an extremely fast 5 moves per second after instantly recognizing the best pattern gives you 4 seconds.
You want to see it do under 4 seconds? WATCH THE VIDEO.

OT: This is quite astonishing, I wonder how far he is willing to go with this robot.

The trick is, it has to be hooked up to the LHC, then we'll get us a wormhole my friend!

I think this pretty much sums up humanity... "How did you solve the Rubix Cube?" "I built a robot to do it for me."

It only solves one mixed up cube in the video and it takes it 10 seconds all of the other times it is just a few moves off from done when it starts. When it does it in four seconds it is because it is only four moves away from being solved.

Now I'd like to see it do that with a Rubik's Hexagon!

Please note, Rubik's cube. The man who invented it was named Rubik. I don't know who came up with 'Rubix', that sounds like a cheap Chinese knockoff of an actual product...

(Oh good, I'm not the only know-it-all who pointed this out.)

Admittingly this thing solves a cube twice as fast as I do:

However, in my defense it is still not faster than humans who compete in solving the 3x3x3 Rubiks cube. They usually solve it under 10 seconds and the current WR is 7 seconds.

So HAH! :p

Wait wait wait. Solves a puzzle, opens a portal to someplace else? Do you WANT this robot to summon the Cenobites?
Okay, obscure Hellraiser references aside, this sounds pretty cool.
+rep.

Hellraiser was awesome, and even the lesser entries in the series had SOME good moments.

Incredibly iconic 'bad' guys (Some consider them angels).

OT: What's the world record for a human solver?

EDIT: Damn, ninja'd. Thanks to the guy who posted that!
