My dear Escapists, I have been surfing on the escapist for almost a year now,
and it is about time i posted something, it has to be something interesting and educative.
something that can be used in daily life. now i have found something useful.
This is not mine and i did not create it, the original poster is known as "Plagueraven"
a personal friend of mine, who gave me permission to post it on the escapist, the original can be found here:

Now take you're time reading this.

Rules, rules, rules. Everything we do these days is always restricked by rules: social rules, laws, unspoken rules, rules from school, rules from work, and even more. But do we really need them? No, we don't. Infact: all these rules keep us from doing as we wish. For example: you want to kiss a girl, but you can't. 'Why can't you', you might think. Well she might be too good for you, or already have a boyfriend, or even worse: be a lesbian, which pretty much screws up your hopes of ever kissing her. But what's the real problem? The real problem is your mind. Because you thínk that she's too good for you, but she is not, she's probably not even good enough for you. But if you want to kiss her, just go ahead, because there is nothing that will stop you. But you probably won't... And why not? Well Because you are too afraid of the consequences. The consequences for breaking the social laws: her boyfriend might beat you up and the rest of the school/work hate you. And the consequences for braking the official laws: she might turn you in for raping. Both these thought will probably keep you from kissing her, but these thoughts are also lies. They are thought to you by the goverment. Because you see: you always have the choice to not obey the law, but then you will be arrested. Being arrested raises fear in our harts, and makes most of us to obey the law. The first mistake is believing that the law is right, because there is quite a big chance that it isn't. And offcourse you have no reason to listen to law that makes no sense. But then again there is the fear of being arrested, being putted in jail or pay a fine. But by thinking those thoughts you maken an even greater mistake.

You see, in Philosofy, we learned that there a certain kinds of arguments who apear to make common sense, but they are false. One of these kinds is called 'polarisatie' in dutch. It means or... or..., which gives you the false feeling that you can choose, while in fact you can't. For example the sentence: 'you can either agree with me, or be wrong.' This is obviously wrong. But when you turn it in the much by goverment used, and unspoken sentence: 'You can either obey the law, or be arrested.' Then people tend to not see the mistake. But is clearly there, and you might now also see the mistake you made by believing it: the feeling that there are only those two choices. Which is a lie, as most 'criminals' will tell you. There are many, many more options. For instance, you can NOT get caught. Yes this might not be a new idea, for everybody knows that you don't get arrested when you are not caught. But when you look at the sentence again you will see that this can't be true. Because you ARE breaking the law, but you ARE NOT getting arrested. Which would have to mean that the law has changed so that, you are not breaking the law. And a law that is not consistent and changes all the time is not a good law as you might understand. For it would lead to this effect:
day 1: you get arrested if you don't wear a white shirt.
day 2: you get arrested if you wear a white shirt.
day 3: if you have ever been arrested not wearing a white shirt you get shot.

As you can see, a law that constantly changes is a bad law. And it is clear that you shouldn't obey a bad law, because it is not a good thing to do. Why not? Because if everybody took every law for granted, no matter how stupid, or how dangerous for your safety/freedom/love, then the ones who disobey the law, would take advantage of you. I will show you how it happens: it is decided that you can't wear weapons anymore, not even the police or the army, since it is used for violence, and makes people violent and scared for other violent people. This seems again like a perfectly normal law, and it indeed might have made people do feel safer and reduced the violence... But not only do i doubt this, it would also only work if EVERYONE would participate. And there lies the big problem: there are always people who are more intelligent or more of a rebel than others, and who think outside the box. These people will also notice that, while the everyone is unarmed, and they are the only ones with weapons, they will have little to no resitance. They will take down their enemies, and will probably eventually be the leading force of a country. When they have come that far, they can do to the people whatever they wish, because everbody else will do exactly as they have been told. This will allways lead to tyranny, for everybody knows that power corrupts, en absolute power, absolutely corrupts. The tyranny would lead to people who also think outside the box, as they will have to do because otherwise they will be used, in every possible way. They will have new ideals of how the region/country/continent has to be ruled. And they will have a small chance to succeed. But, if they will succeed, they offcourse will also be corrupted, maybe not in the first generation, but eventually they will.

I hope i've made it clear that only those who do not listen to stupid laws make changes, sometimes even for the good. Eventually offcourse it will not matter due to the human nature. But still. But what are 'stupid rules' exactly? Stupid rules are rules that seem to have have no meaning to you, or even stand in your way. Why should you wait for pedestrians on the cross walk, if you can easily go around them. It has no use waiting, it will only slow you down, to wherever you're going. Rules that stop you from doing what you want to do; think of a social rule; you can't ask for something to eat or drink if the hosts haven't asked you if you wanted anything first. But what if you're really thirsty or hungry, or both? Asking for something is breaking one of the social rules.

But if you look better you will hopefully see that is not your fault that you have to break it, your hosts shouldn't have forced you to break it. So it is fine to break the social rule. It works the same with laws. For instance the law tells us that you can't take what is not yours, never. But if you are dying of hunger, don't you have the right to feed yourself? Especially if the person that you are forced to take it from has plenty. What right does he even dare to not share with those who are dying?! And the 'law' also commends us that we cannot take the life of another human. But what if this particular human will kill someone else if you won't? One of them will die, that is a certanty, but which one? If you have to do exactly as the law says it will be the innocent one. If you dare to think for yourself it will be the murderer. Or if you're being attacked, and someone tries to kill you; shouldn't you be allowed to kill him? Yes, says the law, becaus this is called 'self-defence', which is even more stupid, because they are saying that it is wrong to take a life, and at the same time that it is okididleedoki to take a life...

The reason why people do not notice this is again simple: they do not wish to know; they are afraid that thinking others than others will make them an easy target. And, because almost everybody seems to think that these days, that makes everybody trap everybody, sick as it may seem. But we... We who think for ourselves, we can see through this thick net of lies. We can see that rules are there only for those, who are not strong enought to see the world as it is, and need guidance for everything. And because we can see this, we can take advantage of this: we can use our knowledge to gain power, use the power to gain might, use the might to gain more power, use the power to gain more might, continious. And when we finally have the power we can perhaps, and only perhaps, make the changes for a better world. But since i know that the last setence is only an ideal, you should probably just use the knowlodge of the lies when you choose to. Because there is no good, or wrong, because there are no laws. You should decide for yourselve what you want to do. You are the one that matters. Do as you wish and always remeber:
You are as free,
as you let yourself be.

Well, to some extent this is true. There are quite a few laws like this, but most seem (To me) to have evolved from basic principals to encompass the complexities of modern life.

But those are still rules you say. Well yes, technically they are. Is the rule not to kill really a bad one?** Most are there for a good reason, and those are the ones that will always be there. The others will come and go as society (Hopefully) progresses.

Although, having said all that, I'm not seeing the overarching point of that big wall o' text there. Care to put a TL;DR. I did read it, but I can imagine people who won't.

There's also a whole load of assumptions made there pertaining to the malleability of the common knowledge. Most of us know our fundamental rights, and don't want them given up so easily.

Bleh, re-reading it, it seems like just another Anarchistic 'Speech'. I can imagine some

Intelligent... think outside the box
person standing up in front of a raging mob reciting that while they burn down the houses of parliament. (V)

But really, what would that achieve? People put these rules in place themselves.

**There is no contradiction in the Law here. If you kill someone, even in self-defence, you will be punished. Citing Self-defence just lessens the punishment.
