It is easy to understand why they would release a limited supply upon launch. You never put the cart before the horse, and I think they want to wait and see if the "limited supply" sells out in under a week to convince the workers to step up the production for the next run. Seeing as how the Wii wasn't quite the first on the scene for next-gen consoles, I don't really blame them for wanting to be cautious about this release. Clearly, people are excited about the new 3DS, but with the DS, DS Lite, XL-DS, and DSi already on the market, aside from the 3D aspect, what is really going to make people shell out another $200+ for yet another version of the DS? If they just retool previous titles to work within a 3D environment, people will sour to this gimmick really quickly, so I can only hope they put serious effort into creating new titles to support the new dimension.
I'll wait it out and see how the system works before even considering one of these toys. There could potentially be disappointments on the horizon, and I'm more willing to let people with more money than they know what to do with to test the waters for me instead.
