No thanks. Part of the fun of Elder Scrolls is class experimentation. I'd rather not lock myself to one playstyle for the length of time an MMO requires.

I really don't like the sound of that, I've never been a fan of mmos and I've been waiting far too long for the Elder scrolls 5 to have it turn out to be an mmo.
That mention of Fallout 4 however makes me smile.

Guys, what the hell. The Elder Scrolls V is not going to be an MMO.
Todd Howard's team doesn't do MMOs. Zenimax Online perhaps does, but not Todd Howard's team.

You know what I'm anxious about? The new name for the fifth one.
Same here. The titles Morrowind and Oblivion gave you an idea of what to look forward to. If they name it Skyrim for example, my imagination will be filled with longships, tundra, and mead halls. And leggy Nord lasses. I just hope we get a unique and interesting world like Morrowind as opposed to the relatively bland and unambitious worlds in Oblivion and even Fallout 3. It doesn't need to feel alien, just interesting and unique.

The good news is that an Elder Scrolls MMO probably will not take the place of a single player title, though it might push back the time table still further. The bad news is TESV could be a long time coming even now.

Oh please no.

Just keep it a CRPG with no online content.

I really don't like MMO's and wont buy this property.

I'm pretty sure that if bethesda is making a game, it's gonna be singleplayer, Zenimax Online are the people they use for online stuff.

Hi,

This is not directed personally at you, but the reactions are still such that I feel the need to reiterate what has been said multiple times on this very page, namely that

THE NEXT ELDER SCROLLS WILL NOT BE AN MMO!

And just for future reference, how do we actually know this? Why can we say

THE NEXT ELDER SCROLLS WILL NOT BE AN MMO!

being so cocksure? Simple.

In regards to the MMO comment, he was asked if there was "any chance of an Elder Scrolls MMO" and he replied ? in a joking fashion ? by saying "I guess there's a chance." To be clear, Todd and his team do not make MMOs, for any franchise, at all. We have another division, 'ZeniMax Online Studios', which is lead by Matt Firor, and they are working on an MMO. They have not said anything about what game they are making. When ZeniMax Online is ready to show what they are up to, we'll let everyone know. Until then we aren't going to provide hints or speculate on what they're doing either.

So, seeing as the new game is made by Todd Howard's team, what we can learn from this is that clearly

THE NEXT ELDER SCROLLS WILL NOT BE AN MMO!

k? K.

I can see why they'd consider an ES MMO and, tbh, a few years ago I would have been the first to say "Awesome idea".

Whilst I do like MMOs (I currently play Lord of the Rings Online and Fallen Earth) I do think we're reaching breaking point and I don't get why every developer seems intent on turning each IP into an MMO - the market is saturated.

Within the next year or two I doubt MMOs will even be released with subscription models but, rather, they will need to be F2P or, at least, hyrbid like LOTRO.

Even then, who has got enough time to play all these MMOs? I have 2 on the go and that's more than enough.

Bad news, I want a real Elder Scrolls V.
I agree. An MMO inevitably has a smaller focus on story, although the class system from elder scrolls, introduced into an mmo, would be extremely entertaining.

If they do make an MMO, i hope it won't be confined to one large area, instead i'd rather be able to go to all of the countries. Cyrodiil, High Rock, Morrowind, Elsweyr, etc.

I could imagine the Elder Scrolls being a really awesome MMORPG as long as they make it a RPG...

So this can't end well...

I'm pretty sure Bethesda will practically never make another Elder Scrolls - especially an MMO. I suspect it's an entirely new genre or perhaps an extremely old revived one. But no way in hell they would be stupid enough to make an MMO out of the Elder Scrolls experience.

An Elder Scrolls MMO would be awesome, hopefully it wouldn't "replace" the next single player outing though.

I mean, isn't that company making Brink also goverened by ZeniMax?
Exactly. Brink is a game that brags about breaking down the wall between single player and multi-player, blending this and that seemlessly together. This achievement might be realized through certain MMO-related code-wrangling. I'm not too unsettled by this at all.

But... Oblivion is my Zen time. I love to hang out in seaside villages for hours, or to wander through the wilderness hunting deer with a bow and arrow. I don't want to watch other people playing Elder Scrolls, I want to enjoy it on my own terms.

That said, this does have a chance of working, if it's about how many different people can change the world together. However, it's more likely that this will fail, and fans will keep playing either Oblivion or WoW.
