Rumor: Doomsday Set to Appear in Batman v Superman

The being that killed Superman is rumored to make an appearance in Batman v Superman according to "past reliable sources" of a site.

While Warner's upcoming Batman v Superman film is already packed with more DC characters than it can fit [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/134001-BOOYAH-Ray-Fisher-is-Cyborg-in-Batman-Vs-Superman] given the film's focus is on actually pitting the Dark Knight against the Man of Steel, well, we might get one more addition to the roster -- if rumors are to be believed. According to BleedingCool, "sources who have been rather reliable in the past" have told the site that Doomsday, the creature that killed Superman in the comics, will be making an appearance in Batman v Superman! Unfortunately, though, that's all they have at the moment and adds, "much can change in the production process. This may be used purely for flashback purposes on the screen, looking at the life (and death) of Superman. It may be purely for promotional efforts to accompany the film. Or it may not make it to the final cut."

In other Batman v Superman news, we posted just last month that Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter movie franchise) has expressed interest in playing Robin alongside Ben Affleck's Batman [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/135590-Harry-Potter-Star-Daniel-Radcliffe-Wants-to-Play-Robin-Opposite-Ben-Afflecks-Batman].

So, what do you make of this rumor? Will Superman bite the dust in the upcoming film? Given Warner Bros. is seriously building up for its own Justice League movie, and Superman being a key member of the team, I'd say it's a safe bet that Supes won't bite the Kryptonian dust anytime soon.

Post credits scene, if anything, probably. At least they're going slightly out of the Lex/BrainIAC/Darkseid general field, if so.

The more I hear about all of the characters being stuffed into this movie the more I'm reminded of X3.

Well, why not? Half of Metropolis was destroyed in the last one, might as well bring out the nuclear option against Superman to take care of the other half...

This extreme character swap shop is telling me that no one really has much idea of exactly what the focus of this movie is supposed to be. Is it a straight up verses movie? Is it a Justice League introduction? Is it a sequel and if so to what movies? Who is the main hero? Who is the main Villian? Is there a main protagonist at all?

They just seem to be firing every and all ideas around wildly and then trying to cram them into a movie to draw as many people as possible, and that's not really a good way to make a movie, especially considering the gritty emo grimdark realistic style they are trying to achieve.

DC haven't done post credit scenes yet though, they've always been Marvels little trick, so having a post credit scene in this movie is unlikely unless they've just completely given up and went full clone mode.

If he's like the JL cartoon version fine but overall this is rather silly putting all these elements in there and if they're only cameos they aren't worth mentioning.

What kinda bugs me about this is that I feel like DC is missing WHY Avengers worked so well. And that's because all of the characters were already established. We didn't need to explain who Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor were. Why Black Widow is here. Or what's so big about this Banner guy. The audience already knew them or at least the film could assume they did as they already had their origins explained. And even if they didn't, they could just go out and watch the movies they appeared in.

Here, we know this version of Superman and...
That's it. Sure, Batman is probably one of the best known comic characters of all time. But what about Wonder Woman? What about the other three dozen characters showing up in this? Sure, they may be big names, but they haven't been established in the film universe.

People loved Coulson because he was established, in a minor role, in several movies. Steve Rogers was already established as a man displaced in time and seeing him "get" the flying monkey reference was funny. Tony Stark was established as a smug but charming genius, already so seeing him work off the equally genius Bruce Banner was a joy.

What will the audience know about Wonder Woman? Doomsday? Even this version of Batman, since it's not to Nolan one.

This feels rushed trying to force an Avengers style movie in an effort to make some of that Avengers style cash. And I can't help but fear it will fail. If only because it would have to establish who the characters are too much to allow them to play off each other in any way that will come off as genuine and deserved. Instead, we'll get forced exposition dialog.

"Who are you to question me?"
"How dare you? I fought, against my mother's wishes, to be recognized as the greatest warrior of my people. To be able to leave our homeland, and join the 'world of man' as a champion for all people everywhere. Who are you to question me?"

I really hope they're just testing ideas trying to see how the public reacts, but I know they're not. They really just need to decide what this movie going to be about and stick with it instead of this jumping round like a kid with ADHD, Ooh it's
Superman 2, no it's Batman v Superman, oh it's also the set up for Justice League, because Justice League needs a set up because if you just show a poster with some super heroes and the title Justice League no one would know what that is.

Also appearing Krypto the super dog and Batman's goldfish.
*Puts on nerd glasses* I'll have you know that Batman has a dog known as Ace the Bat-Hound, thank you very much! *Puts glasses away*

OT: Why hello another character in an overbloated movie, looking forward to seeing you underdeveloped and too quick scene in the film (though to be fair, its going to be hard to shorten a personality that is *destroy*).

Doomesday in the comics was awesome because you knew what superman was capable of. In the movies, it would be stupid to waste Doomesday now - wait till supes has fought some major baddies. Maybe give it 2 or 3 movies time so that we know who supes is and the power of Doomesday isnt wasted.

This whole "and the kitchen sink" thing that seems to be happening with this movie is starting to become tiresome and is slowly killing my interest in it. Even with the stuff we know they'll be doing, I'm kind of to the point where they're pushing to hard for me to care now.

It's fun to have off hand references pop up and things happen slowly over time as suprises; it's not fun to have everything fall on you at once.. Or it is, but if you're only planning on doing one movie/show/game/book/whatever.. Remember when Green Lantern asked you to accept too much, too soon? Don't do that again!

End credit scene for JLA, maybe. I don't see them marching Doomsday out just yet. Put Darkseid in BvS post-credits then add Doomsday in the teaser after Darkseid has had his beatdown. Planning, planning, planning. Marvel's got decades of planning for their films, showing no small amount of restraint with their A-list villains. DC needs to do the same.

You know what would be funny? If this WHOLE movie is going to try to be like a live-action Animatrix with an even less cohesive narrative than Batman: Gotham Knight...

Oh... and Doomsday's too soon to be unleashed just yet... unless you're setting up some kind of "Darkseid Ex Machina" plot-twist... and all of the future DC movies within this "established" continuity are deliberately shown "out of order" for "character-driven" reasons...

Maybe this movie will just be 120 minutes of Mortal Kombat style 'KO' clips, running through the entire rogue's gallery, until Sups meets Doomsday in the last 15 seconds, and is KO'd himself.

How else could they cram more nonsense into this movie?
