This is some awesome news. I absolutely loved Flashback back in the day - even today I'd put it in my personal top ten.

For those who weren't gaming or weren't into gaming culture when Flashback first appeared, just know that in its day it was easily one of the greatest games around. It really is one of a kind, and the fact that it's so unfamiliar to gamers today is a tragedy.

Wow, I didn't know it sold that well. I had and loved the demo on the MegaCD. Always wished I couldn't owned the actual game.

BTW, is anyone aware that there was actually a sequel to Flashback on the PSX, Fade to Black?
Yeah, I had it and for some reason I didn't like it.
I didn't even know it was a sequel to Flashback at the time, but I suspected it was because of the way the main character was dressed.

It's strange to think that 20 years later side-scrolling games would come back into fashion. If they had just done a more dynamic game, still as a side-scroller, I think they would have been okay. Take this early Bungie game, Abuse. Strange, I think Abuse came out after Marathon:

The sequel, Fade to Black which was one of the first ps1 games is in far more desperate need of a remake, that game was cutting edge when it was one of the ps1 games but omg has it aged horribly... Both visuals and gameplay :(

Original flashback still holds up due to the 2d animation imo.

Related: yahtzee before he became a contributor on escapist and famous for ZP, did an awesome vid of him finishing the end sequence of flashback: the protagonist Conrad planting the bomb on alien homeworld then making dramatic escape to the tune of "living on a prayer" :)

As far as dramatic end game escape sequences go, this still holds up really well imo :)

For those that don't know, this game was one of those "slow" platformers akin to Prince of Persia back in the day. It had niche appeal, but the pacing was great in that you oftentimes had time to think about what you're going to do beforehand.
